Nikomu nie udalo sie napisac tak popularnego reportazu o Mazurach i Warmii, jak Wankowiczowi. Rzadko zdarza sie, by reporterska opowiesc przez dziesieciolecia tak mocno wplywala na sposób percepcji i wyobrazenia o jakims terytorium. Wankowicz, bardziej niz pisarze i historycy zawladnal wyobrazeniami kilku generacji Polaków o Mazurach i Warmii.
