Summary

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Naturally Tan written and read by Tan France.

In this heartfelt, funny, touching memoir, Tan France, star of Netflix’s Emmy award-winning Queer Eye, tells his origin story for the first time. With his trademark wit, humour and radical compassion, Tan reveals what it was like to grow up gay in a traditional South Asian family, as one of the few people of colour in South Yorkshire. He illuminates his winding journey of coming of age, finding his voice (and style!) and happily marrying the love of his life - a Mormon cowboy from Salt Lake City.

Humorous and poignant personal essays are peppered with style advice, funny lists and the truisms that Tan has accumulated in his journey from South Yorkshire to Netflix.

In Tan's own words, 'The book is meant to spread joy, personal acceptance and most of all understanding. Each of us is living our own private journey, and the more we know about each other, the healthier and happier the world will be.'

Lovely and fantastic

So wonderful to hear the story of a South Asian who also is queer. Its hard to find representation in minority groups and relate in struggles. I also love his honesty and sassiness!!!

Fantastic

I was surprised how much i love this book. I could relate on many topics Tan spoke about and that is rare. The book is interesting and very well narrated by Tan himself. Will be waiting for the next one

Very lovely, relatable and inspiring!

I was a fan of Tan from the first time I saw Queer Eye and I am so proud of the representation he brings to the public eye. It took listening to this book for me to really feel how much I relate to him. I highly recommend.

Good account of the British Asian experience

Really conversational read - felt like a podcast (and not in a bad way!). so easy and fun to listen to. The only issue I had with it was the negativity. Tan can be a little bitchy and self righteous and it kinda bums you out a bit. I guess it's a raw account of his life though so I'm glad he spoke his truth!

not gone on it

unfortunately I was not gone on this book, felt a bit sad for Tan as he seems to be still carrying a bit of bitterness about people who were mean/aggressive to him in his childhood/youth, it's not that he should not have the right to feel that but I would have though that as he has a global platform he would have tried to send fans a message that you grow above that bitterness instead of allowing it to stay there and get a kick out of little things like not replying to fb message from someone who was a total bee years ago . .

Excellent, funny and I loved the little fashion tips. A very true and honest book with so many interesting chapters.

So good!

Honest, open and straight forward story. Life before and after Queer Eye. I love that there is no BS and he doesn’t pretend to be something he’s not.

Very surface level for an autobiography

This autobiography does not go deep. It’s very surface level and at times very superficial. There are so many things that are not covered, such as how Tan comes out to his parents, any of Tan’s previous relationships before his husband, any personal stories - it doesn’t feel very honest and you don’t finish the book feeling like you know the real Tan. After reading both JVN and Karomo’s books, this one is definitely a disappointment.
