About this listen

Poor Neccabashar. As the youngest demon on the Evil Council, he’s tried everything to gain the respect of the elder demons and still they ignore and slight him at every opportunity. But Neccabashar has a plan, a scheme that will finally garner him the respect he so craves: he will bring evil and chaos to the last pure bastion of good, the Happy Kingdom.

fun and pleasant an easy listen book

it's crazy to call a book about demons and present but this genuinely was. even when the demons were up to no good there was a lovely moral to be had.

if you want a fun easy listening experience this is the book to have. excellent performance by the narrator too!

A Medieval Romp With Demons & Spirits

Neccabashar isn't getting the breaks he thinks he should be getting in hell. He has a plan to change this. With a cast of bizarre characters, lots of humour, twists and turns, a love story and magic the tale moves on a pace. Wonderful narration adds to the enjoyment.

A Charming Fairy Tale

I should start at the beginning by saying that the cover illustration and summary actually give a little bit of a misleading impression about this book. It looks like it might be scary and a bit icky in places, you know, devilish.

However what happens within is a charming and moral tale of good overcoming bad and there are some smiles along the way.

Nice characters, archetypal baddies and no nasty language or violent disturbing images.

In fact the sort of book you could probably listen to with older kids - maybe 10+ - on car journeys etc.

It also will suit any of us looking for a pleasant, droll romp through a vaguely medieval magical kingdom. A refuge from real life, with all its challenges.

The narrator is excellent and brings a nice dimension to the story, capturing the at times pantomime type characterisations.

Any fans of Robert Rankin may well enjoy this book.

Evil has never been so funny

Neccabashar Is the youngest demon on the evil council and to try and earn their respect he will try anything. However they still ignore him and his plan to bring chaos and evil to the Happy Kingdom doesn’t go quite go as he’s planned.
Hannibal Hills brings the characters to life and it made me laugh out loud in places .

Took a while to get started

I admit that I did almost lose interest in the first hour, but I stuck with it and found the story to be quite entertaining, if rather daft, I thought it was going to be about a demon getting into trouble in hell, but no, he's busy getting into trouble in a fantasy medieval kingdom.
It is as I said, a daft story but I shall be listening to 'the sequel' as I have enjoyed it but I don't think Habbibal Hills was the best choice for all the characters, he narrates it well, as he usually does but his little girl voices do not come accross well, most narrators have trouble with that, so I think a younger voiced female narrator should have played the girls voices as I believe that would have improved the experience greatly.

I received my copy free of charge at my own request in exchange for my unbiased review.

Something wickedly funny this way comes...

This is a wonderfully whimsical tale that doesn't really break past PG-13 rating when it comes to humour. It's entertaining in a brain candy kind of way so if your preference is something more highbrow then I suggest you look elsewhere. Ultimately Vee James has created comedic caper that'll distract you on a dull commute without taxing your attention too greatly.

The narrator, Hannibal Hills, appears to have really enjoyed working on the audiobook and certainly gives a grand performance in this recording. He seems ideally suited to this genre and weaves the crazy cast of characters seamlessly together bringing the whole story to life.
