About this listen
After years of seeing her sisters suffer at the hands of an abusive prince, Marra—the shy, convent-raised, third-born daughter—has finally realized that no one is coming to their rescue. No one, except for Marra herself. Seeking help from a powerful gravewitch, Marra is offered the tools to kill a prince—if she can complete three impossible tasks. But, as is the way in tales of princes, witches, and daughters, the impossible is only the beginning. On her quest, Marra is joined by the gravewitch, a reluctant fairy godmother, a strapping former knight, and a chicken possessed by a demon. Together, the five of them intend to be the hand that closes around the throat of the prince and frees Marra's family and their kingdom from its tyrannous ruler at last.

A superb audiobook
Brilliant. The 2023 Hugo Award for best novel is thoroughly deserved. A clever and original story. Marvellous characters. Excellent narration. All in all a superb audiobook. (Michael).

Great story
lots of twists and turns, great and colourful writing style. However, not sure why everyone is raving about the chicken who didn't do much. The dog was a more significant character.

the ultimate adventure
I couldn't stop listening to it. Ever so well written it is compelling. One might think that they are familiar with the structure of the story but it is full of wonderful twists and turns. It sucks you in. I only wish that the make character was given a more mature voice. He sounded like a lad in puberty not a warrior of 40 years. overall I loved it.

A dark fairytale esque quest
This a contender for my fav book of the year !
This was an amazingly dark and weird fairytale that struck the right chords with me. I loved how it took all the well used fairy tale tropes and twisted them, making them more palatable for a modern audience. I also loved its discussion of Domestic Abuse and the cyclical nature of it. Overall just a wonderful book ! After a small blip from Kingfisher, theyve given me two absolutely fantastic reads.

It’s a fairytale for people that think to themselves all too often how unfair the world is.
Beautiful and darkly whimsical. Characters are flawed but relatable and so, so endearing. One of those stories that is going to stick with me for a while.

Interesting FMC
Initially unsure of narrator’s voice (probably as had gotten used to another narrator recently), however ended enjoying the different characterisations. Really interesting twist on Fairy Godmother’s and really loved the sidekicks gathered throughout the story.
