About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

There was someone in the house.

Home alone with her young children during a blizzard, a mother tucks her son back into bed in the middle of the night. Then she hears a noise - old houses are always making some kind of noise. But this sound is disturbingly familiar: it's the tread of footsteps, unusually heavy and slow, coming up the stairs...

In that split second, she has three choices.

Should she hide? Should she run? Or should she fight?

This book was absolutely fantastic, I was so absorbed in it throughout and was literally on the edge of my seat multiple times!!

Edge of your seat thriller!!

This starts out well but fizzles out. No real twists. Struggled to like the characters.

Good idea but fizzles out

One of the best books I have listened to, had me hooked from the start

Truly amazing

Right from the off you’re in two minds about the validity of the main character’s situation. This book keeps you guessing all the way through.

Full of suspense.

This is like a locked room thriller that holds you on the edge of your seat, gasping “oh no” as the protagonist inches down the stairs of a dark basement while you know something bad is about to happen…. That feeling but for a full 10 hours. Terrific.

Bang on feminist themes regarding micro aggressions and reporting crime.

Terrific narration.

Creepy as hell

What an amazing book. Hooked from the start. So cleverly written. I’m devastated I’ve finished it!

Outstanding read

Interesting and did make it to the end but very drawn out and slow. Almost gave up and did skip a couple of chapters towards the end without me loosing the thread of the story.

Sadly would not recommend.

Slow and hard going at times

Gave up after half way where it kept repeating the woman’s thoughts. Unsympathetic characters. Did not enjoy it enough to finish.

Boring with an annoying victim

I really found this quite boring. In places it also jumped around and because it was a hard read I didn't follow it properly, not that this seemed to matter. I did struggle to finish it.
