Rob Wise is a bit of a loser. He lives in a run down flat with 2 other lazy non-productive mates and Pit Bull the girlfriend of one of them.
As his money runs out he sets out to find his mum and it soon becomes a journey of self discovery, which on the way encompasses searching for his neighbours missing grandson, reuniting with family, and old friends, getting into exciting and terrifying situations and finding love and himself.
Much of the book is set in South London, my own stomping ground and I liked that I knew the geography (and have been to the restaurant in Croydon where one scene is set). There is also gentle humour and a moments of light-heartedness but I wasn't convinced by the "finding God" aspects, it felt forced and unrealistic.
I part listened part read this, as although I got a free code for the audible, the narrator for me did not do the book justice. I found I couldn't listen to this all the way through. I found some of the accents and timing of the narrator off-putting so switched to the Kindle edition.
The writing was at times a bit clunky, but overall the story was enjoyable.

Rob Wise lived with his grandad until he died, his father left then his mother and his best friend did a number on him so when his grandad died and left him little money he took his depression and moved to a run-down flat with 2 other men both layabouts and a girl called Pit Bull. When his money runs out nobody to pay rent, the house could do with a good clean no food and he calls himself an author although he has never written anything so he upped and went looking for his mother which he found. The prodigal son returns to the fold and she has found god and takes him in, she lavishes on him and tries to make up for the lost time, and one of her friends is a hairdresser Grace, and she cuts Rob's hair, and whilst talking to her he relates that his next-door neighbour where he lived was looking for her grandson Alexei, so Grace suggests they help her look for him as Rob knows his way around a computer. and can find some clues, anything that's of value. That's when the fun starts he manages to find small clues but not giving him any direction, this audible is witty humourous, and funny in parts other parts a tale of woe. An interesting listen and promises to put a smile on your face and you have to ask yourselves will Rob Wise ever write a book?

Decided to give this book a listen after watching an interview with the author and narrator. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. The characters are all brilliant, especially Rob, who is down on his luck and living in a flatshare with a couple of dysfunctional housemates. He decides to help his elderly Russian neighbour (who speaks like Yoda!) to find her missing grandson which leads him into danger.

The book took me on a rollercoaster of emotions. One minute I was laughing out loud and then I was wiping away a tear and then gasping OMG! I went to sleep very late last night (or early this morning) because I just had to finish this!

The narrator, David Jacobs, did a good job with the different voices.

This was another of those books I was wary of because I dont do funny. Itvstarted off humourous but the story moved into my gavourite genre of mystery and mayhem 😁. Nice flowimg story

Full disclosure I was fortunate to be a given a code to listen to this book on condition of an honest review... therefore I will be honest, I did not like the narrator, it was just a personal preference but I found it difficult to engage fully with the story whilst attempting to deflect the narrators reading of what is a very good story, it has all the ingredients needed in a book to the keep the reader attentive and interested, I hope the book is released in either physical format or digitally because i will certainly purchase it and read it to fully enjoy it
