About this listen

A crime of passion strikes close to home when Gemma and her best friend, Hazel Cavendish, travel to Scotland, a land of mists and fine whiskey, of hidden pasts and dangerous secrets, or so Gemma discovers when an unexpected meeting with Hazel's old flame yields shocking—and mortal—consequences.

Hazel is the logical suspect, but Gemma knows nothing is simple in this place of secrets and long-seething hatreds. As even more damning evidence piles up against the friend Gemma never truly knew, the investigation takes a darker, more sinister turn. Gemma knows she will need assistance to unravel this bloody knot. And so she calls the one man she can trust, Duncan Kincaid, to join her far from home and in harm's way.

Two in one

The weaving of the 19th century story with the modern one did not work for me - glad it was an included title.

Shame about the narrator

Enjoyed the story despite awful narration, accents changed continents, it was comical at times. Shame.

A gripping book of convincingly interwoven tales

Had to keep listening to hear what was next. Loved it....once I had sorted out the 3 girls with flower names all beginning with H!

Setting good, narration poor

When a book is almost entirely set in Scotland, with Scottish characters, it would be a really good idea to have a Scottish narrator! The accents in this were awful, often sounding almost Welsh for the Scottish characters, and Gemma’s London accent wasn’t much better. Quite a good story, mixing the historical scenes with present day, although it was easy to guess the murderer.

Most annoying narrator

Story kept me going, but please: if you’re wanting to read a story which involves place names and such like, at least ensure you know how to pronounce them.
Very sing-song narration with odd stresses and inflections, wish the author decided to get a new narrator for her publications.
It was in the free library… now trying to decide whether the next in line is worth the bother?
I adore series, but truly struggling here.
