Summary

Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers join forces on a deadly maritime case in the remarkable new novel from internationally best-selling author John Sandford.

An off-duty coast guardsman is fishing with his family when he calls in some suspicious behaviour from a nearby boat. It's a snazzy craft, slick and outfitted with extra horsepower, and is zipping along until it slows to pick up a surfaced diver...a diver who was apparently alone, without his own boat, in the middle of the ocean. None of it makes sense, and his hunch is proved right when all three guardsmen who come out to investigate are shot and killed.

They're federal officers killed on the job, which means the case is the FBI's turf. When the FBI's investigation stalls out, they call in Lucas Davenport.

And when his case turns lethal, Davenport will need to bring in every asset he can claim, including a detective with a fundamentally criminal mind: Virgil Flowers.

Great read as always

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, especially as Virgil and Lucas starred in the same novel. Good plot and the humour hit exactly the right spot. I look forward to the next in the series.

Worth The Yearly Wait

I wait all year for each new release of this series. Sandford has a unique way of letting his characters speak to one another that’s always humorous and chillingly realistic. This book is certainly no exception. The storyline is, as ever compelling but both Virgil and Lucas feature in this novel which works even better than I’d hoped.
Hang on right to the end for the hilarious author’s notes. Worth the wait.
Finally, without Richard Ferrone there is no Lucas in my opinion. His acting prowess is seldom bettered. He reads with subtlety and finesse.
This is a worthwhile addition to the Prey series and in these difficult times, a worthy distraction.

Enjoyable

Once again a good and enjoyable audio book. That's all the prey series done now. Question is is Lucas going to retire now, or are there going to be more prey books to come.

Another enjoyable and engaging story

Having read or listened to most of the ‘Prey’ books I am familiar with the characters and humour but still enjoy the different storylines and excellent narration.
Another gem!

One of my favourites of the Prey series

I have listened to every one of the Prey series, over the course of a few years. This is without question one of my favourites, and I have just completed my 4th listen to it, while away on holiday with my husband, who loved it just as much as I did.
Excellent writing, and narration by Richard Ferrone.

Why a three star !

The author needs to know that there is at least 270 words to replace the word said! It felt like in 10% of this audio book said was used.
