I loved every minute of it. Haven seen Oliver Twist as a play at the theater as a young girl in Denmark I was looking forward to learning the original plot. The narrator did a splendid job. A book that showcases the British history and the views on children women rich and poor. I can only recommend it highly.

Martin Jarvis is a narrator without equal. Fantastic characters brought to life in the Victorian England of Charles Dickens.

Martin Jarvis's narration doing Dickens proud

I'm listening to all of Dickens' novels and this was one I thought I knew, having studied it at school and knowing the musical version by heart! It is worth a listen even if you think you know it! It leans rather into the gothic and some passages are brutal but the good characters are so wonderfully good that there are regular reprieves from the darkness.

The contrast of goodness and evil is so stark in this book

One of Dickens' greatest novels, the story is fuller and deeper than the famous film adaptation. One has to wink at the coincidences so essential to the plot and the modern reader will wince at the charicature of a Jew but it is Dickens' genius that even Fagin, so portrayed is sympathetic. Wonderful performance by Martin Jarvis.

Simply a classic
