Summary

Enter the enchanting world of Martha Morgan, a very imperfect heroine.

In 1796, Martha becomes the mistress of the struggling Plas Ingli estate, at only 18 years old. She is pregnant and suicidal. Though she loves her husband, David, dearly, she is desperately lonely in a strange house, and her quick wit and cutting humour make her as many enemies as friends.

There are mysteries surrounding the great fire that devastated the estate, but Martha's questions about it remain unanswered. Nobody else seems to realise that their haughty servant, Moses Lloyd, the disinherited son of the local squire, is not as trustworthy as the rest of the family would like to think. The local gentry consider that Martha is far too clever for her own good, and it seems inevitable that she will fall into a trap designed to send her to the gallows. How can she possibly escape?

Critic reviews

"It has a page-turning plot, packed with adventure, treason, murder and passion, where the horrors in the drama are balanced by gentle scenes full of the warmth and love of the family at Plas Ingli." (Welsh Books Council)

Brilliantly descriptive , with an absorbing story line set in 18th Century North Pembrokeshire farming community.

The spoken narrative was beautifully in soft Welsh accent by Janine Cooper.
The characters came alive in my mind and I became drawn into the intriguing plot , set amongst the ancient Welsh Preselli hills. The detailed description of each character together with wonderful pictorial descriptions of rural life , the language, seasons and traditions completely captured my imagination.
Looking forward to opening the next stage of the Angel Mountain Sagas !

Absolute GOLD ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I must admit that the start was somewhat slow for me. This was only because my dyslexic brain was learning for the first time to what conditions people lived in the era of this epic story. The more I listened the more I wanted. The narration, characters and story was paced perfectly. I was there all the way and without giving the story away certainly went through many emotions including tears of joy. Congratulations and can’t wait to listen to the next book in about 5 minutes…Thankyou ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Boring

Possibly one of the most boring books. I can not listen to any more. Have given up on this book. Do not even want to know how it finishes. Little story, no sympathy with any of the characters. I very rarely give bad reviews, but on this occasion I just had to.
