About this listen
Nearly everyone knows someone on the autism spectrum, whether it's a niece or nephew, a student in their classroom, a coworker, or a sibling, spouse, or child. One in 54 children have autism, according to the CDC, and autism is reported across racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups. Yet most of what people think they know about autism is wrong.
On the Spectrum debunks myths with a realistic yet hope-filled deep dive into the heart, mind, and life of a Christian. Daniel Bowman, a novelist, poet, and professor, received an autism diagnosis at age 35 after experiencing crises in his personal and professional lives. The diagnosis shed light on his experience in a new, life-giving way. In this captivating book, Bowman reveals new insights into autism, relationships, faith, and the gift of neurodiversity.
Rather than viewing autism as a deficiency, Bowman teaches listeners - through stories of his heartbreaks and triumphs - authentic ways to love their neighbors as themselves, including their autistic neighbors who are fearfully and wonderfully, if differently, made.

The Most Relatable Book I have Ever Read
I have never gained so much understanding and knowledge about myself, the way in which I see the world and how this differs from Neurotypical people in just a single book. As an autistic, I found the monotone voice welcoming and easy to listen to. For me seeing so many different perspectives of neurodivergence through the eyes of neurodivergent people has been invaluable and there is so many messages I will take from this book. Just so real and enlightening. would highly recommend to fellow neurodivergents and anyone with an open mind and a willingness to learn.

Hard listening but great content
I found the audio hard work to engage with as it was so monotone - but if you can get past that, the content is fantastic, challenging and insightful

Relatable, thought provoking and heartwarming
An incredibly refreshing account of life as an autistic adult. At times the book feels dreamlike as it meanders through his philosophical and theological reflections on life. The writer's background in poetry is evident and his use of language is captivating. As a non religious autistic, I found the religious discussions fascinating. I truly admire how he takes such strength through scripture and the religious community; even if I can't relate to it.
The narrator's voice suited the content well. it was both soothing and expressive to me; delivering the poetic nature of the writing beautifully.
Finally, as an autistic teacher myself, this was hugely relatable and his story is a beautiful lesson in humility and the value of self reflection. I will be re-listening again soon.

Absolutely fantastic
Needs to be listened to more than once!
Extremely interesting and jammed full of useful and necessary information.
The author walks in a meandering pattern through parts of his life, and every minute contains one gem or another.
Thoroughly recommend for anyone wanting to know more about what it is like to have autism and how that can affect one’s relationship with God.
