About this listen

The career of Stefanie Powers is one of so many stage, screen, and television credits that her name alone recalls memories as varied as her roles-on screen and off. From movie roles including John Wayne's daughter in McLintock! and Lana Turner's rival in Love Has Many Faces, to being terrorized by Tallulah Bankhead in Die, Die My Darling and befriending a Volkswagen in Herbie Rides Again, she stepped onto the television screen as the sexy secret agent April Dancer in The Girl from U.N.C.L.E. and the jet-setting, crime-solving wife of Robert Wagner in Hart to Hart.

She is also an award-winning stage actress, fitness advocate, and an internationally recognized animal conservationist.

A natural beauty groomed for show business at an early age, Stefanie Powers began her career at the tail end of the Studio System, a dynamic education in star quality and Hollywood history she happily admits was, "one hell of a ride." Privileged to have worked with some of the greatest names in the Hollywood firmament, Stephanie tells of the time she broke down in tears at a party over her divorce from actor Gary Lockwood, only to be comforted with a cocktail and the hard-won, been-there advice from two guests she had never met: Elizabeth Taylor and Ava Gardner.

This is One from the Hart, Stefanie Powers's story of a resourceful, empowered, and atypical celebrity life, told with all the candor, wit, and wisdom that have come to embody the woman herself.

One from the heart that gets you in the heart

A lovely and insightful read into the life and mind of a wonderful woman. 'Hart to Hart' brought me here, but Stefanie's honesty, humor and laughter kept me going. Her career is just one memorable aspect, with her personal life a close second. The stories around her elderly mother and aunt (and their pure determination) had me laughing in the best way. Stefanie's vulnerability in her personal life and how she handled its ups and downs are life lessons everyone should take with them. Bravo, Mrs Hart!

What a journey

I just loved this book. What a life Stefanie Powers has had. I listened to this everyday out walking and each day I was wondering what country I would be taken to. It make me laugh and cry. She has had her full share of highs and lows and it’s so sad that Tom Carroll has died also since this book was written. She is my favourite actress since I was a child and still is today. I would highly recommend this book especially on audiobook. It makes such a difference to hear her voice tell the story.

A warm glow

I knew, if sketchily, Stefanie's history of wildlife preservation, connection with the art of bullfighting and her relationship with William Holden but it was the TV show The Girl Frm UNCLE that first got me hooked (as an awakening teenage boy!!) with her. Her life and her narration reminded me of a demure swan. ...lots of action beneath the surface to keep going but a serenity in poise and speech that was so captivating. There was no "luvvie" celebrity speak merely the telling of a story with charm and love. Enjoyed the journey immensely.
