Summary

Continuing the Deep Space Nine saga - an original novel from New York Times best-selling author David R. George III!

At the end of 2385, in a significant shift of its goals from military back to exploratory, Starfleet sent Captain Benjamin Sisko and the crew of the USS Robinson on an extended mission into the Gamma Quadrant. Tasked with a yearlong assignment to travel unknown regions, they set out to fulfill the heart of Starfleet's charter: to explore strange new worlds and to seek out new life and new civilizations.

But now, three months into the mission, their first contact with an alien species comes in the form of an unprovoked attack on the Robinson. With the ship's crew suddenly incapacitated, 78 of the 1,300 aboard are abducted - including Sisko's daughter, Rebecca. But Rebecca had already been kidnapped years earlier by a Bajoran religious zealot, part of a sect believing that her birth fulfilled the prophecy of the arrival of the Infant Avatar. Does her disappearance now have anything to do with the harrowing events of the past? And for what purposes have these enemies taken Sisko's daughter and the rest of the missing?

Another great story set in multiple timelines

I really enjoyed this book it has great storylines and great characters. I especially like the gamma quadrant storyline with the strange new life and civilisation, and the dangers that causes for the characters on the ‘Robinson ‘ Sisko’s ship. I don’t want to give too much away, but the aliens in this book make this a very good story and I really enjoyed listening to this book.

The second half the the reward for getting through the first half

I have to admit that I really struggled to get through the fist 4-5h of this audiobook. It just didn’t captivate me.

Throughout the fist half of the book we follow three storylines. The first is Sisko on a ship that encounters an alien species that steals the children of the crew, the second is the kidnapping of Rebecca Sisko at an earlier point of time, and the third follows a very dislikable and slightly crazy Bajoran.

Without wanting to spoil anything, two storylines merge and the moment that happens, it’s a lot more enjoyable to listen to.

What I did love was the way the audiobook is narrated, the end however was a little lacking because both storylines come to the same conclusion and while it’s interesting the first time, the second time we do expect it to happen and it gets boring.

All in all not a bad book at all but I don’t think I would listen to it again.
