About this listen

An absolutely gripping psychological thriller with a brilliant twist

Marianne has a life others dream of. A beautiful townhouse on the best street in the neighbourhood. Three bright children who are her pride and joy.

Sometimes her past still hurts: losing her mother early, growing up in foster care. But her husband, Simon, is always there. A successful surgeon, he’s the envy of every woman they’ve ever met. Flowers, gifts, trips to France: nothing is too good for his family.

Then Simon says another woman’s name. The way he lingers on it, Caroline, gives Marianne a shudder of suspicion, but she knows it’s nothing - she can’t entertain this flash of paranoia.

In the old days, she’d have distracted herself by excelling at work, but Marianne left her glamorous career when she married. She’d speak to a friend, but she’s too busy with her children and besides, Simon doesn’t approve of the few she has left.

It’s almost by accident that Marianne starts to learn more about Caroline. But once started, she can’t stop, because what she finds makes her wonder: is the question she should be asking not "should I be jealous" but..."should I be scared?"

Fans of The Girl on the Train and I Let You Go who are looking for a dark, gripping psychological thriller with a final twist to put their jaw on the floor will love Our Little Lies.

gripping and very true of domestic violence. A bit predictable towards the end but still enjoyable

Almost worth listening to.

I find writings about power and control and the way men, or women, can undermine and influence minds and self worth fascinating and thought provoking. So, this was on those lines, but quite frankly it's been done much better before. I was waiting for a new insight but it didn't come. The main character is pathetic and irritating and I couldn't decide whether to be sympathetic or to tell her to pull hersellf together.
The police interview was dire, and made the police sound pretty thick, and those voices were particulary annoying.
Unravelling the 'who done it' seemed a bit too easy, but then came a plot twist, which explained why.
I did listen to the end, despite my irritation, so I suppose it was worth a listen, but I wouldn't read another by this author.

Heartbreaking

Having been all too familiar with the subject of this book, it made me angry that this really does happen to people. A heartbreaking story i finished in a day and a half.

Brilliant throughout!

This book kept my attention throughout. Halfway through, I thought I knew what the twist in the tale was going to be, but I was wrong. The actual twist in the tale was even better!
I thought the main character Marianne, was such a wimp and should've stood up to her husband, but then that would've been as different book! I didn't like Jen from the start. The only thing I found quite annoying was the way she keep saying Hashtag this, and Hashtag that, it really got on my nerves. Apart from that, it was really well written. I will look out for more books by this author.
The narrator was excellent.

A thoroughly good read

I've laughed, shouted and been overwhelmed at times whilst listening to this story. Empathise with some characters and fill with anger at others, this book takes you through the ups and downs of life in an affluent home through the eyes of a mother and wife...
