About this listen

Demonic alien-killing, blood-splattering LitRPG/LitFPS action in a dark science-fiction world.

[Overtaken Online. The world's first FPS VR-MMORPG with 100 percent immersion. Reminiscent of classics like Doom and Dead Space, but with RPG-elements that enable players to level up and develop skills—and sprinkled with a pinch of magic. ]

Thirty-three-year-old game designer Dex Walsh spends an entire year devoured by sorrow after the death of his wife. As a last-ditch effort to regain his joy, he sells everything and joins Overtaken Online.

Expecting to spawn in a noob-friendly area with guidance from his personal assistant, he instead finds himself naked and alone in a dark prison cell rapidly filling with gas.

Under-leveled and not knowing how to escape, he has no idea how far he will be able to progress as long as he pushes forward and doesn't give up.

Beware! This story contains:

  • Blood and guts
  • Foul language
  • Notifications/pop-ups/inventory management
  • No harem

If you're a fan of RPG or MMO games.

Much like Guild Core (Fantasy Fiction) by a different Novelist. Fun lvling RPG based sci-fi Novel and well enjoyed. If you're a gamer you'll enjoy this.

Now that's how you tell a god damn story

This is an amazing read, the slow build the twists, the use of racing as a narrative machine there is no part of this book that falters. For the Litrpg genre this has got to be n my opinion on the Mount Rushmore of Litrpg epics, not to mention authors

Well worth it.

I was given a free copy of this book, and I'm leaving an honest and voluntary review.

This box set has a bit of everything. There's plenty to keep you thoroughly engaged.
Character progression, plenty of depth and detailing. It's a decent pace that takes you on a wild ride.
The narration is perfectly suited to this box set.
All in all, a very enjoyable experience.
I would definitely recommend it.

Fun litRPG series

This is a fantastic value box set with a great story and fun characters. It different from most litRPGs books as set more in a sci-fi environment but I really enjoyed the character development and overall story. Hoping there will be a book 5!

Good Idea that I couldn’t get on with

I wanted to like this book, but the stilted language and meandering plot just left me tired.

With the initial setup being quite good, the scene was set well for a race against time. But there was no feeling of urgency or logic behind the MC’s choices, every challenge was down to the last hp, no consistency in character behaviour. Thus it began to meander...

I stopped listening halfway through book 2 as it failed to make me care about what happened next. I felt that no matter what it would follow the idea 1: Massive danger, 2: Success by the narrowest margins, 3: MC’s personality flip-flops to meet the need of the next trope to be used.

It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t good either... Try “The Wandering Inn” for a rambling fantasy with good character progression, or “He Who Fights With Monsters” for a fun fantasy romp with a similar initial premise.
