Christian Morgenstern, am 06.05.1871 als Nachkomme einer Malerfamilie in München geboren, studierte zunächst Volkswirtschaft und Jura, später Philosophie und Kunstgeschichte. Seine ersten heiter-grotesken Dichtungen wie Galgenlieder und Palmström machten ihn sehr rasch bekannt. Eine innere Krise beendete Morgensterns "weltliche Epoche" und führte ihn zu Nietzsche, Kierkegaard und Meister Eckhart. Seine Lyrik wurde mehr und mehr Gedankendichtung, ja geradezu "Philosophie in Versen". Morgenstern starb am 31.03.1914 in Meran.
