About this listen

In a thrilling case that takes Paul and Steve to exotic Egypt, Paul Temple is called in to investigate a mysterious murder. The twisting trail takes them from London to the back streets and nightclubs of Cairo.

From 1938 to 1969, crime novelist and detective Paul Temple and his Fleet Street journalist wife, Steve, solved case after case in one of BBC radio's most popular serials. They inhabit a sophisticated, well-dressed world of chilled cocktails and fast cars, where the women are chic and the men still wear cravats - and where Sir Graham Forbes of Scotland Yard always needs Paul's help with a tricky case. Now, Paul Temple is being brought into the 21st century in this brand-new eight-part recording of a lost-archive Paul Temple mystery, starring Crawford Logan and Gerda Stevenson.

Excellent, in the style of the original broadcast

This is a dramatisation of a Paul Temple play in the style of the original broadcasts. It is a detective story 'of its time' when the vogue was for amateurs to solve cases for the police. The cast and production values are excellent and the story is sufficiently quirky, maybe even clunky, to be entertaining. My preference is still for the early Peter Coke versions, but this is an excellent alternative. If you like old fashioned , stylised 'detective' mysteries. then you will probably like this.

Jolly Good!

Another Paul Temple mystery which are so sweet and formulaic. You know who the bad guy is as soon as you meet them but Paul Temple, Steve and the Police bumble about for a bit and have terribly exciting adventures. I love the music and the very quaint accents. Fantastic escapist fun which really helps to pass the time when painting the house. I can't wait for more tokens to arrive so I can download more. Also great to have on when the kids are around as no swearing or adult themes, it is just a very sweet and innocent mystery story.

Marvellous stuff

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Because it's a ripping good yarn, and terribly good fun.

Any additional comments?

I love Paul Temple, I love Steve (though she has a distressing habit of getting herself kidnapped and/or drugged (sometimes by her own husband)), and I loved this. London to Cairo via an aeroplane with no discernible safety features, dead bodies turning up all over the place, an international cast of crooks and ne'er-do-wells, some extremely dodgy accents, and - most importantly - an ordinary pair of horn-rimmed spectacles. Marvellous.

A most excellent listen.

A splendid dramatisation by the BBC. A well written crime story, with an excellent cast, I was easily absorbed into the story. First rate!

❤️BRILLIANT & FANTASTIC Paul Temple

I love to listen to these on a cold lazy Sunday afternoon as I can snuggle up & relax to a charming good detective story for over 3 hours. These are pure joy as you follow the husband & wife team to find the murderer. Set in UK 50' & 60's these are excellently produced with a fantastic sound track of guns, parties, fires, speedboats & all sorts of exciting goings on. I bought the full collection. Steve & Paul are becoming like old friends. Love it ❤️

A fascinating period piece!

It is quite an entertaining story and worth listening to simply for the language "By Timothy!" etc or for the fact that Paul Temple and his wife Steve seem to drink quite a few Martinis with no ill effects!
