About this listen
A prince hiding his identity and a woman hiding hers - and sparks will fly when they have only each other to rely on....
Prince Éduard of Aviroux is hunting down the Great Whisperer, the spy helping the French nobility escape the guillotine, and he’s so close when thwarted by the delectable Giselle. In all his years, he has never seen a woman like her: resourceful, cunning, and ready for a fight.
What he doesn't realize is that she's just the spy for whom he's looking. Now trapped on an island together with food running out fast, Giselle is attracting his notice for all the wrong reasons, and it surely won't be long before secrets, as well as clothes, start to fly.
Will Éduard discover Giselle's terrible secret - or will he reveal some of his own? And can a perilous time with a prince ever lead to something more than just the heady delights of the flesh?
This is the prequel to the Ravishing Regencies series.

I enjoyed this novella, but I did feel that Eduard and Giselle's instant-love was a little out of place as the connection didn't really build enough to support it quite so early on. I would have preferred the realisation to come later, when they parted on the island. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, after all!
I also thought that Giselle's behaviour was rather incongruous with one purportedly 'innocent' prior to their first intimate encounter. I'm not sure that 'she's French!' is enough reason for her to approach the situation with such confident abandon, or so few concerns about ruination. Pregnancy would have cost her everything, including her main objective; finding her brother. That she gave this no pause seemed out of character for a spy living in her wits.
The writing is rather clunky throughout with a lot of clumsy repetition, but it is not so bad as to hinder my enjoyment. (For example: "She managed to get out of the boat after grabbing a small dagger from the bottom of the boat." Or, "Eduard could hardly admit it to himself, but if he was honest with himself he was a bit afraid of her.")
The narrator, Julia Eve, put in an engaging performance once more, handling the French accents well and contributing to the sense of peril in the more turbulent moments.
I'd recommend this audiobook to people who like HEA's, flamboyant historical romances, and the idea of being castaway with a handsome prince. The perfect holiday listening for a day on the beach!

Julia does a great job narrating. Her accents are great and easy to listen to. I'll enjoy listening to the rest of the series with her narration.
