Nice to have a full Sisters Story…..But…

Great to have a full story from the Sisters of Battle. Only problem I had was the jumps between characters and how similarly some were named made it hard to follow who was who and where they were involved. Probably easier on repeated listening.

Assignment understood, for better or worse

I propose a game, when listening to this.

Self-flagellate with a rubber band every time you hear the word "pray" and drink a glass of holy water every time the narrator says "sublime".

Great whilst painting Sisters

Slow start, and wasn't perfect throughout. But really great insight to how zealous, devout and grimdark the Soroitas can be.

A bit predictable without depth

Starts well but quickly accelerates through a basic plot with a predictable ending. Not sure how it fits into the setting, being set a century after "recent" events.

A story that delivers exactly what it aims to do

First the narration is good, with enough variety in characters to keep things understandable and well performed, especially the often difficult opposite sexes.

The book is called a pilgrim and that’s what we get, a story of the sisters setting off and travelling the dark routes in the Warhammer universe where there is only war.

But more than that we do get more stories on the faith of the sisters, it’s something I’ve seen developed recently, that of faith being less of a uncertainty and more of a real and tangible force.

The story of Morwen was gripping and I almost wish the book focused more on her but then we’d miss out on the main plot line with Helewise.

The action is well written as is typical for the author who really excels in grandiose spectacle with shifting points of view while not allowing the scenes to drag. In and out. Satisfying. Special mention should be given to the void scenes, much like the Morwen sections id equally like to read an entire book set on a starship like the daughter of the emperor.

Over all I rate it high, it’s an enjoyable standalone book with characters that I’d be pleased to return to

story gets stretched a bit thin

the story basically has three strands that don't seem to get enough time to get any depth.

the chem dogs are always nice to see but there not enough plot other than the high level penal stuff.

the sisters don't really get enough time to stew on things to give some of the decisions the impact they should.

there was an opportunity to go into the wobble in faith caused by the rift and the penitent but no more than background reference.

Slow start but loved the second part of the book amazing ending and overall great to listen while you paint you own sisters of battle

The book was a penitent journey

I would say that ultimately that issue with this book stems from its length and bloat of story’s; three going at once

You have the Chemdogs who are mostly unlikeable sods who only start picking up towards the mid end of the book, which is unfortunate because they get such little love in general for 40K. I found them interesting enough ultimately, and the ending of some of the characters

You have the sisters themselves; ultimately unremarkable to the point that I find it difficult to even remember their names - but fine nonetheless

And then you have the girl-saint whose introduction was interesting but are then reintroduced far too late for anyone to honestly feel reinvested again in who they are

The story meanders a bit; though the crossing of the rift was particularly interesting and I greatly enjoyed what was done there; the rest of the book is far too bloated to enjoy; reduced to a glacial pace by the voice acting which I unfortunately did not find engrossing and only fed in to the penitent journey this book was to enjoy the bits and pieces that were truly interesting

A ponderous book, but otherwise average experience with a bit of good bits strewn here and there
