About this listen

The perfect gift for all ages, Pinocchio as you’ve never seen him before: telling his own story through the master storyteller and award-winning author of WAR HORSE.

“Now – there’s no point in pretending here – I was, and still am deep down, a puppet. Everyone knows Pinocchio is a puppet. I reckon I must be just about the most famous puppet the world has ever known. But the truth is I’m not just a puppet, I’m more than just bits of wood and string. I’m me. So I thought it was about time that I, Pinocchio, told you my story…”

So begins this stunningly beautiful interpretation of the classic story. Michael Morpurgo channels Pinocchio’s words to tell the famous puppet’s story in his own inimitable, cheeky and always funny way.

A wonderfully different telling

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Morpurgo at his best using his enormous writing talents to take the image of Pinocchio from the books and the disney films into a new and very different light. See the world from Pinocchio's point of view as he learns lessons that many have learnt early on. See his self deprivating in some ways look back on himself and his actions whilst enjoying the mahem and chaos that occurs. It is short stories yet they suck you in and move on in such a way as to not be bogged down in the moral lessons.

Well written comprehensive and fun, if a little too much all at once.

Not has good has his other books

Not bad, but definitely not has good most of his other books & I found my self getting annoyed with it or rather pinocchio, I don't know it's that I knew the story quite well, having listened to the original book, and seen the cartoon & the live action film a few times or it was his mistakes that I could see was wrong at the time or what.
