About this listen
Man no longer worships the old gods; forgotten and forsaken, they have become nothing more than myth and legend. But all that is about to change. After the ruins of a vast, ancient civilization are discovered on the ocean floor, Coast Guard officers find a series of derelict ships drifting in the current - high-priced yachts and leaking fishing boats, all ransacked, splattered in blood, their crews missing and presumed dead.
And that's just the beginning.
Vacationing artist Larry Neuhaus has just witnessed a gruesome shark attack, a young couple torn apart right before his eyes...at least, he thinks it was a shark. And when one of these victims turns out to be the only son of Roger Hays, the most powerful man in the country, things go from bad to worse. Now, to stop the carnage, Larry and his newfound friends must work together to unravel a mystery as old as time, and face an enemy as dark as the ocean depths.

I will make you fishers of men.
Colonial Bay, picturesque tourist location, and a young couple, one the son of a New York based multi billionaire, become victim to an apparent shark attack, the remains of the bodies not found until the see a bed is dragged. Part of the attack had been observed by an artist, Larry, vacationing on the island with girlfriend, Peggy, his mental state already shaken after he'd failed to prevent the suicide of a former loved some years before. Meanwhile, another couple, Carole and Alan, archaeologists, had found a vast underwater city which, they believe, could only be Atlantis. But with funds running out, they need to visit their benefactor, the just bereaved father. And all three head for Colonial Bay.
This fishy horror story, told from numerous perspectives, is a cleverly woven tale told by overview, and is extremely effective in slowly building an almost cinematic vision, with haunting.visuals and character thumbnails. Dramatic from the very first pages, it is, nevertheless, hard to really enter into the story because of the introduction of so many new, apparently unconnected, characters. But connect they all do, eventually, forming an exciting and solid story. The protagonists are diverse, sometimes bizarre, made very human by their numerous flaws. The narration by S.W.Salman is good, his slightly gruff but pleasant reading perfectly fitting the storyline, underlying expectations of the unexpected. His individual voicings of the characters further assists in bringing them to live for the reader.
Poseidon's Children is a vividly visual great of strange watery goings on, with battles and gore and a touch of mythology. I was fortunate in being freely gifted with a complimentary copy, at my request, via Audiobook Boom. My thanks to the rights holder - I just say that I enjoyed it very much despite it being somewhat outside my usual genre choice. Slightly slow to come together at the start but very well worth persevering, and well written, perfect for anyone who enjoys Jaws-type stories with a big twist, or the idea of looking for Atlantis. Just be careful where you swim at night
