About this listen
Jane Austen's most popular novel, originally published in 1813, some 17 years after it was first written, presents the Bennet family of Longbourn. Against the background of gossipy Mrs. Bennet and the detached Mr. Bennet, the quest is on for husbands for the five daughters. The spotlight falls on Elizabeth, second eldest, who is courted by Darcy, though initially she is more concerned with the fate of her other sisters.

Would you listen to Pride and Prejudice again? Why?
Yes! It is simply one of my favourite books. What did you like best about this story?
As well as a happy ending arrived via an interesting route, the characters are wonderful. Most of the protagonists are extreme - very good, very wicked, hysterical, laconic - it's a wonderful commentary on life in Jane Austen's time, but also relevant to today in many ways. What about Emilia Fox’s performance did you like?
I have to say, I have been a bit disappointed with Emilia Fox's performance. I partly chose this edition because she was in the famous BBC adaption, where every character was bought to life splendidly, but some of her reading seems lacklustre. She does seem to 'warm up' by the end - Mrs Benet assumes some of the hilarious hysteria that Amanda Steadman brought to her - but for much of the book, it is rather pallid reading. However, it is clear, articulate and of course, the words that she reads are superb. If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
I wouldn't make a film of this, I'd just say "Get the 1995 BBC adaption!"Five Star Story...

Beautifully narrated and voiced, characterisation and humour gently interpreted. I can only thinkMs. Austen would be happy with this narration.
