About this listen

A game that turns to a nightmare....

Non Omnis Moriar

I shall not altogether die

A young boy watches his mother die. A sadistic man dies in agony. Drunk students play with a Ouija board in a damp cellar. Can bricks and mortar retain imprints of the emotions experienced within them?

Frannie is delighted when a chance meeting with a handsome man and his son leads to a romance. The fact that the relationship is marred by gruesome tragedies, she dismisses as an unsettling coincidence. But eventually she can no longer ignore the fact that she is the only thing linking these horrible events. Is it a murderous practical joke?

Or worse?

I nearly gave up with this about 2 hours in as I found the start very very slow, which was in stark contrast to the cold hill books. Glad I didn’t though as it turned out to be a very intriguing story and quite a bit different from your average supernatural thriller. Characters were well developed and the narration top notch. Fans of quick and gratuitous horror won’t like it.

Very slow start but stick with it!

The story is a great ghost story with twists and turns.I was hooked from start to finish! Would make a great movie if it hasn’t already

Great scary read

The narration is excellent too.

I’d started to lose interest after a hour or so - seemed a bit predictable and I didn’t engage with or care about any of the characters. I stuck it out a bit longer and it was a very good tale with an interesting and gripping plot , once it got going.

It built up

I was nearly going to give this a miss, but decided to carry on I was pleasantly surprised, despite the misnaming of the bread sticks!

When I pre-ordered this book I thought it was a brand new standalone novel by Peter James, though I discovered it was actually first published in 1992! However it has now been released on Audible.

The book starts in 1652 with a gruesome murder and then moves to 1988 when a young boy witnesses the death of his mother in a car accident. I couldn't work out how these two events could be connected, but the clink is very gradually revealed during the book.

I felt the book had a bit of an old fashioned feel, possibly because it is almost 30 years old, but while listening to the book I felt a real feeling of dread and foreboding. Peter James really does do horror very well (I loved The House on Cold Hill). The ending did feel a little rushed/

Nathalie Buscombe does a fantastic job with the narration.

Great Supernatural Thriller
