About this listen
On behalf of queen, country...and the perfect pot of tea.
When Prudence Alessandra Maccon Akeldama (Rue to her friends) is given an unexpected dirigible, she does what any sensible female would under similar circumstances - names it the Spotted Crumpet and floats to India in pursuit of the perfect cup of tea. But India has more than just tea on offer.
Rue stumbles upon a plot involving local dissidents, a kidnapped brigadier's wife, and some awfully familiar Scottish werewolves. Faced with a dire crisis and an embarrassing lack of bloomers, what else is a young lady of good breeding to do but turn metanatural and find out everyone's secrets, even thousand-year-old fuzzy ones?

The narration is not the best
If you have heard the narrator to the finishing school or parasol protectorate, then you are up for a surprise. It is very disturbing to have some characters completely change their dialect. Biffy always spoke perfect English but had a Spanish heritage that was not obvious until his full name was known. Now suddenly he sounds like a fake-Italian. Very annoying!

great continuation
If you have not read or listened to the parasol protectorate novels then please read those first, to help your understanding of the universe Gail Carriger has created.
it us a great continuation of the storyline without on over reliance on old characters from the parasol series nor from the finishing school series. the story is fast passed however if you don't like parodies of upper class Victorian society maybe look somewhere else.

Good, but a little disappointing
I really wanted to love this book as I adored The Parasol Protectorate series, however I was left disappointed. The story was a little dull and was filled with pointless prattle, and I found the character of Rue a little arrogant and unpleasant, the epitome of a spoilt brat, and not what I was expecting at all. A real shame as I had been looking forward to this book for ages.

A excellent Super-natural book
Would you consider the audio edition of Prudence to be better than the print version?
The audio edition is fabulous to listen to, with Moira Quirk, the narrator, giving life to all characters.
What did you like best about this story?
The next in the saga of the Parasol Protectorate. This time Lady Maccon's daughter takes the reigns and leads this story.
What does Moira Quirk bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Moira gives so much life to all characters. She brings the belief of reality through the whole book, which I admire in many narrators.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Every chapter of this book is excellent. You can see the shift from prim and proper Lady Maccon to her tearaway daughter, Prudence and her other friends.
Any additional comments?
I only started this collection of books (5 Parasol Protectorate, 1 Custard Protocol) 6 months ago and enjoyed every one. Gail Carriger, I believe, is an excellent writer, how she moulds the words to her bidding and creates these super-natural stories that will blow your mind. I am very much looking forward to her second book in the Custard Protocol (no release details on her website yet, only confirmation of the title 'Imprudence')

Fantastic!
I really enjoyed listening to the start of Prudence's story and her Spotted Custard. There is a mystery to be solved and Pru captains her friends and flying boat to India. Lots of things happen along the way as trouble seems to be attracted to her! Definitely recommend.

Not the best by this author
I don’t know if we were supposed to know Quesnel from other stories, but I had no relation to him, and the characters in general were a bit less substantial than usual. Story was still good, and I enjoyed it. But unlike the other two series by Gail Carriger that I’ve gone through so far, I don’t feel a need to immediately buy the next one in the serie.

new series and a brilliant addition
I had great fun listening to this book which can be read alone but is better as a follow on from the previous books as these set the scene, explain the way this world works and provide the family background.

Charming
An engaging romp through a steampunk Raj. Beautifully narrated and well written. Another winner from Ms Carriger.

Pru is very different from her mother
Fun light hearted introduction of the young all grown up and some great new characters.
I didn't find this book as gripping as the parasol protectorate series.

An excellent new series. Loving Rue.
Great story. I have been totally addicted to this series. Again, Gail has managed to imagine and bring to life some fantastic characters with a great plot. Need more - hate that I am having to wait!
