About this listen
THE BOLD NEW MEMOIR FROM SOUTH AFRICA'S DOUBLE WORLD CUP-WINNING COACH RASSIE ERASMUS
Rassie Erasmus has been called a genius. He’s been called reckless. All his life, he’s done things differently. Now, with his trademark candour, Rassie talks openly about his adventures and misadventures at the pinnacle of world rugby, both as player and coach.
From his role in Nick Mallett's record-breaking Springbok team of the late 1990s, to the devastating injuries that cut short his playing career, to his revolutionary coaching career, Rassie is an essential window into one of the most successful figures of modern rugby.
When his teammates relaxed, Rassie preferred to watch hours of video and devise winning strategies. His coaching methods were initially laughed off – before being eagerly adopted when their success proved undeniable. He fought the rugby establishment at the Stormers, and later earned the grudging respect of Irish fans at Munster.
Most crucially, Rassie talks about his greatest contribution to South African rugby: appointing its first black captain, Siya Kolisi, without much fanfare or controversy. As his bold plans for effective racial transformation of the national team achieved immediate success, they culminated in glory at the 2019 Rugby World Cup. Here, that monumental period is recounted in vivid, insightful detail.
Entertaining and eye-opening, Rassie is full of behind-the-scenes revelations, telling the story of a towering figure in world rugby.

Rassie’s Passion & Honesty.
Loved Rassie’s story beacause he has a gift which he uses to make life better for those who need it. He leads by example and his honesty and awareness encourage those around him to be able to stand up for what is right even when it is difficult. There are very few leaders who don’t get blinded and sucked into the hypocrisy of so called success. Well done Rassie and thank you.

What an inspiration off a bloke. Player and coach. Always thinking outside of the box made the top of the rugby world look at themselves... thanks for what you have done to SA rugby...

An amazing story about an amazing Man.
I have respected Rassie for many years, his passion, his out of the box thinking and his just go for it attitude. This book give you an insight into the man himself and it did not disappoint.

An absolute gem of a listen
Thanks Rassie for sharing your story.
Now this was a ‘lekker’ book to listen to. I particularly liked how the narrator spoke little Afrikaans words/phrases and repeated them in English immediately. Means I can recommend the book to all my English friends.
If you love Rugby, enjoy watching the boks play and listening to a guy that doesn’t sugar coat stuff in an attempt to make himself shine - if you value those things you’ll love this book.

what a fascinating man
long time fan of the Springboks but Rassie Erasmus made them as great as we.all thought they were. his story, from the very beginning, as an ordinary Afrikaans kid, to arguably the best rugby coach ever, is as honest as it is fascinating! I've listened to it twice now, to ensure I missed nothing. I missed nothing!!!!

Absolutely brilliant
Excellent story and insights on Rassie - arguably the best rugby coach the world has ever seen. He has copped unwarranted abuse but few recognise his unbelievable achievement in levelling the playing field in SA to give all talented young players a pathway and opportunity. He has completely changed rugby SA and it is certainly paying dividends with back to back World Cups and I suspect more to still come with him at the helm. Well worth the purchase and well worth the read. Thank you Rassie.

I enjoyed every second of this book!
Rassie is already a remarkable man to me, but reading this and learning more about who he is and what his 'why' is had been incredible 😊 As a Xhosa woman who's been living abroad for over 20 years, it was also very special to hear Afrikaans, Xhosa and other vernacs in this...Makes me so proud to be South African. But more than anything, as a real lover of Rugby, this book is even more special. 🙏🏾

What an incredible journey. I feel truly inspired by this book & feel nothing but admiration & reel trots for what Rassie has achieved through rugby. Nelson Mandela would have been proud.

Fascinating insight into the passion of South African rugby
Insightful and truly inspiring story about Rassie and the many other stories of the players and characters in South African rugby through the 90s, 2000s, 2010s and right up to the recent, unprecedented period of success. Highly recommended.

Very Interesting
Wonderful to hear the insights of such a brilliant coach and player mentor. So much is said in the media that is untrue. Everybody should listen to this. Stunning.
