About this listen

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Raven: Blood Eye by Giles Kristian, read by Philip Stevens.

The first book in a thrilling Viking trilogy that launched the career of acclaimed historical novelist Giles Kristian - who's now confronting the tumult and devastation of the English Civil War in The Bleeding Land.

For two years Osric has lived a simple life, though he is feared and shunned for his mysterious past and blood-red eye. When raiders from across the sea ransack his village, Osric finds himself taken prisoner by their chief, Sigurd the Lucky.

Immersed in the Norsemen's world and driven by their lust for adventure, Osric proves a natural warrior and forges a deep bond with Sigurd, who renames him Raven. But the Norsemen's world is a savage one, where loyalty is often repaid in blood and a young man must become a killer to survive....

Good story, nice pace and characters that come to life, felt very easy to get immersed in this tale and forget the here and now for simpler times gone.

The only issue I have with this book is that it was very predictable in parts. Apart from that I found it enjoyable without challenging my brain.

A Good Viking Yarn

this author has been on my radar since I read his fantastic short story, Hellmouth. this book tells the tale of a classic English / Viking story , with a cast of intriguing Norsemen and Saxons alike. there's an interesting backstory surrounding our main character that adds an additional layer, and pulls the influence of the gods trope more centre stage , particularly towards the end. I'm currently on a big viking buzz so this is exactly what I needed . looking forward to finishing the series, the narration is very strong too.

a solid and exciting viking story

Well that was worth the wait! What a book, what a story! Hardback, paperback, Kindle and now Audible edition; have them all, never without access to Raven, the book that brought me back to reading. Brilliant!

I'm glad I read this after the other Sigurd tales. Hes a secondary character, but is older, and I feel I know him better now. I really like Raven, and the narrator is PERFECT!
