Summary
How can one man be so incredibly frustrating but so sexy at the same time?
Ryder knows two things. Tragedy can strike at any moment so you have to hold tightly to the gifts life gives you. And Shay is one of those gifts. To Ryder their 15-year age difference is nothing, Shay is the man he wants. Now he just needs an opportunity to plead his case with the sexy lawyer.
He gets his chance when Shay asks him to assist on a case involving a missing person, but the investigation quickly turns perilous. A stomach-churning roller-coaster ride of what the hell is going on, puts both men in danger - but from whom?
Will the two get their chance at love, or will a brutal criminal tear the future from their grasp?
Real Danger, second in the West Coast Forensics series, is a dual POV, age-gap, m/m romantic suspense following Shay and Ryder as they fight for their HEA.

When Ryder gets his way
I enjoyed watching Ryder and Shay dance around each other in the first West Coast Forensics book. Of course I knew these two would wind up together. And rightly so. There’s the fifteen-year age gap. Ryder thinks nothing of this, but Shay’s obsessed with it. Shay has also been a defense attorney for the past however many years until retuning to the island to watch out for his great great aunt (who is a hoot), and to reassess his life choices. He’s too young to retire, but he’s also tired of defending those who are guilty.
When he and Shay are approached by someone to help find out what happened to a missing young woman, they just sort of go along with it. Ryder has more investigative skills, but Shay knows how to read people and how to ask the right questions. Things heat up and it becomes clear someone doesn’t want them solving the mystery of the disappearance.
I liked how the author wove in the Highway of Tears up here in Canada. Native women (and other women) have gone missing along this highway for years without any explanation. In both the States and Canada, disappearances and murders of Indigenous woman are far less likely to be investigated and solved. This is a gaping wound that needs to be addressed. This book helps in that forward momentum, bringing the issue to the fore.
Shay and Ryder are in more danger than they think and their lives are on the line. I don’t want to give away too much, but I enjoyed the suspense in this book. Ms. Keaton always does a good job with that. I got my happy ending and I’m thrilled there’s another book to come.
I’ll say Michael Dean gave another stellar performance and I highly recommend both the book and the series.

Slow burn and excellent back story
This is the second book in the West Coast Forensics series, although it could easily be read as a standalone.
Shay and Ryder, an age gap but slow-burn relationship, which is refreshing and funny.
If you've read Elle Keaton's books before, you know that you get a good solid story, good intrigue, and you think you know how it's going to end, but it is never what I guess, anyhow...
Great story, HEA and a couple of smutty bits to keep you going.
The story is well written, well narrated, clean and clear, good accents. Michael Dean is always a pleasure to listen to. No need to speed up this narration which is very unusual for me.

Excellent audiobook
Perfect mix of mystery and romance - and I loved them both!
The main characters are engaging and I enjoyed sharing their journey as they spent time together following the clues.
The narrator was excellent. He really inhabited the characters and ‘lived’ the story. I wish all narrators were this smooth and confident.

Real Danger
A good listen. Michael Dean does a great job with the narration. This series is, I believe, connected to another series; while I didn't feel like I was missing something in the first book, I did some with this one. That said, I was still able to enjoy the story and the couple's journey.

Delightful and Thrilling
Real Danger is the second book in the West Coast Forensic series, and it could be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading the Veiled Intentions series first (it’s only three books) and the first West Coast Forensic book. Those books help to fully flesh out the setting and a lot of characters in those books make an appearance in this book.
There’s something about Elle Keaton’s books that just suck me in and keep me hooked until the end. I love the characters she creates – I find their personalities so interesting and fascinating. The romance between Ryder and Shay is a sweet slowburn that culminates in a hot and tender moment. The plot was a bit dramatic, but Elle Keaton crafted it in such a way that it didn’t feel too over the top. It was exciting and thrilling, and had me on the edge of my seat.

Adorable!
I am loving this series! I had been waiting for Shay to get his story and what made it so fun is that Ryder was always in his pocket. He was a bug in his ear and really formed a bond and deep connection with Shay that was just enforced by close proximity and fear in the end.
I was sad when this ended and surprised at how quickly it went by. So so good!

Meant to be!
Yes! Finally! Shay and Ryder 4eva lol
I loved Ryder from his first appearance in Elle’s world. He’s so fun, flirty and quirky you can’t help but love him. He knows what he wants and goes for it (even if it takes almost a year of wearing down) and he finally got Shay to come to his senses! Add in a twisted mystery, a few life threatening moments and you’ve got one hell of a story!
Filled with intrigue, this whole story is a intricate puzzle that kept me guessing to the very end. So many unique characters too!
If you enjoy romantic suspense that will keep you guessing and enthralled then this is the book for you!!
I’m loving this series and growing found family and look forward to seeing many more!!

I loved this new instalment!
I loved this new instalment in the West Coast Forensics series!
It’s a very slow burn, mainly because of Shay’s thousands of hang-ups, but the story is kept fresh and super interesting by the mystery in the background, on which Ryder and Shay are unofficially working together.
I loved both characters, even if sometimes I wanted to throttle Shay when he was being super stubborn. Ryder is a very patient man, and that’s a good thing given the man he’s fallen in love with, and very mature for his age.
I loved the bits of text messages exchanges at the beginning of each chapter, I found them to be a funny and endearing addition!

Exciting and intriguing mystery and romance
I really enjoyed this audiobook! Shay and Ryder seem so different on the surface, but they are really a perfect match. The mystery was also compelling and suspenseful with a couple red herrings and plenty of twists and surprises. There is plenty of humor, too. Clarabelle remains one of my favorite characters. I loved Ryder's tweet questioning (originally an effort to get to know more about Shay) that added a lot of funny moments and comments, and I loved the way Ryder went after what he wanted, even in the face of resistance. Great story.
The narration is fantastic, with distinct voices for the characters and great delivery, especially of the humorous/snarky parts.
