About this listen

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Reaper's Gale: The Malazan Book of the Fallen 7 by Steven Erikson, read by Michael Page.

All is not well in the Letherii Empire. Rhulad Sengar, the Emperor of a Thousand Deaths, spirals into madness, surrounded by sycophants and agents of his Machiavellian chancellor, while the Letherii secret police conduct a campaign of terror against its own people. The Errant, once a farseeing god, is suddenly blind to the future. Conspiracies seethe throughout the palace, as the empire - driven by the corrupt and self-interested - edges ever-closer to all-out war with the neighbouring kingdoms. And the great Edur fleet - its warriors selected from countless peoples - draws ever closer. Amongst them are Karsa Orlong and Icarium Lifestealer - each destined to cross blades with the emperor himself. That yet more blood is to be spilled is inevitable... Against this backdrop, a band of fugitives seek a way out of the empire, but one of them, Fear Sengar must find the soul of Scabandari Bloodeye. It is his hope that it might help halt the Tiste Edur, and so save his brother, the emperor. Yet, travelling with them is Scabandari's most ancient foe: Silchas Ruin, brother of Anomander Rake. And his motives are anything but certain - for the wounds he carries on his back, made by the blades of Scabandari, are still fresh. Fate decrees that there is to be a reckoning, for such bloodshed cannot go unanswered - and it will be a reckoning on an unimaginable scale...
A brutal, harrowing novel of war, intrigue and dark, uncontrollable magic, this is epic fantasy at its most imaginative, storytelling at its most thrilling.

Better than previous ones

This was a good listen, yes you have some confusion of similar sounding names but the context usually clarifies it for you. Fan favourites are still making appearances and you have what feels like the start of the culmination from the previous books, plot lines coming together and as ever some emotional moments.

I would thoroughly recommend this book, up there with the quality of the first book

What a great MBotF this is.

One of my favourites of the series so far, and I've completely loved nearly them all. The story is terrific - the character arcs continue in ways you don't see coming - the gory battles are, as always, right on point.

Utter brilliance

Wow…what can I say that the readers of this epic do not already know, SE, clashes all (majority) of all our favourite characters into the book into the same realm, multiple convergences on each story arc of each character.

I do like they way some players of the game are taken out instead of drawing them all out, SE deals with them eloquently but gets straight back to the main thread of the story and doesn’t mess about with pages on what happens to their demise.

Leave a great lump in your throat and a tear in the eye on the last few chapters.

If your just about to start this epic then be prepared for a ride for one of the best books ever written….

Muppet show voices

Erikson's story is amazing as always, but the voice acting is just silly - every character sounds like a completely over the top screeching caricature that would be too much for Muppet show. The narration is fine though.

Second time around

On my second go around of the series, can highly recommend it as you pick load of info and nuance you miss the first time.
My favourite book of the 10, although they’re all excellent. And these audio versions are fantastic. I’m sure Michael Page doesn’t have a different voice for every character but it sure seems like it,

Excellent

What a great story and really well read. I'm glad I read the hard copies of this series first, I like to listen whilst cooking, mowing lawn etc so it would be too complex for a first read.

Enjoyable yet somewhat confusing

I really love this series but for the last couple of books I have struggled to keep up with the different people and storylines. This is my second read through of the series and I'm still lost in parts but the story I can grasp is fantastic. Tehole and Bug are my favorite characters in the entire series.

Tear jerker

Mind blowing book, breaks my heart each time I listen to it. Highly recommended, must be the third longest book I’ve listened to. I let you guess 1 & 2 :-)
