Summary
Ashlock wakes in the courtyard of a demonic sect... as a tree. A tree that eats people.
An odd start to a new life. Almost as strange as the humans flying through the skies on flaming swords and challenging the heavens. After all, this is a world where humans could chase the goal of immortality through the art of cultivation.
But Ashlock is merely a sapling in a desolate courtyard, left alone with his thoughts and unable to speak to those passing him by.
Unless he does something about it...
Every day, he grows stronger as he cultivates and uses a suspicious daily sign-in system that grants him powerful skills, mutations, summons, and items, all in exchange for credits earned from eating flesh and watching the seasons pass by.
But his peaceful life and man-eating ways can only go unnoticed for so long. His Qi-rich bark makes him a target for many young masters. If that isn't bad enough, tensions in the demonic sect are at an all-time high with the Beast Tide festers on the horizon.
Ashlock's only option is to grow faster and stronger than any tree has ever done in the history of the nine realms—all while trying to avoid being turned into firewood.

Good book, some characters are annoying
Interesting premise with decent progression, the ash spider is great, almost all human cultivator characters are annoying, especially a main character named Stella, she just feels like a conceited fool often making stupid decisions and the writer seems to never decide whether she works hard or slacks of. Other characters are cool though and I find the world quite expansive with many possibilities.
TLDR…
Good progression, good world, a few annoying characters but it is made up for with good ones

Fun story from a clever perspective
Good story, and Ramon really brought the characters to life for me. I will likely listen to this story several times eagerly awaiting the next book. Cultivation stories aren't usually terribly interesting to me, but the writing and portrayal here leave me slightly nervous about needing to revisit the genre as a whole.

Unfortunate main character name.
The main character is called ashloch or something similar.it sounds just like the German word for A**hole. it was all I could hear after a while.

A change of pace, then power!
I have fallen in love with many of the Litrpg books the past year or so, this starts as a brilliant perspective where you get to watch a world grow around you. The main character takes a more central role as it goes on but the view of watching a world develop around you I found truly enjoyable.
