About this listen

Shy South comes home to her farm to find a blackened shell; her brother and sister have been stolen and she's going to have to return to her bad old ways if she's ever going to see them again. She sets off in grim pursuit with only her cowardly old step-father Lamb for company. But it turns out he's hiding a bloody past of his own. None bloodier.

Their journey will take them across the lawless plains, to a frontier town gripped by gold fever, through feuds, duels and massacres, and high into unmapped mountains to a reckoning with ancient enemies, and force them into alliance with Nicomo Cosca, infamous soldier of fortune...and a man no one should ever have to trust…

Steven Pacey is best known for his role as Del Tarrant in the third and fourth seasons of the sci-fi series Blake's 7.

He has worked extensively in Theatre, TV and film for many years and in 2009 played opposite Graham Norton in La Cage Aux Folles at London's Playhouse Theatre. He has read numerous audiobooks including Joe Abercrombie's First Law Trilogy, Best Served Cold and The Heroes, and abridged titles by Matthew Reilly.

Amazing Narration

Another great story my Abercrombie written in the style of a western. Great characters, great one liners, great sense of humour. What makes this a truly great audio book is the narration which is second to none. Fantastic!

A massive First Law fan fest

This book left me literally crying for more.

I've read all three First Law books and all three First Law books and all three First Law world books and they never cease to amaze me.

I would absolutely love to see more and more of these but I think sadly there will not be...

Glokta is a squeal.

Excellent Addition to the First Law Trilogy

Abercrombie back again. I've missed this world. I long for the day a true film trilogy comes out.

You have to be realistic

Nothing disappointing about this read, it's brutally realistic of a lawless country with just the values of the characters to determine the rule of chaos or something better. Realistically sad and funny with some brilliant lines, if you enjoyed any of the other books this will not disappoint, but then it won't be for everyone, you have to be realistic don't you.

Another fantastic story

Another incredible entry that wraps of the stories of some the series most beloved characters. If you've been listening along you know what to expect. Pacey knocks it out of the park yet again

Probably best in series.

Struggled to finish The Heros, but this book was great, some old characters, some new, all great.
Nice balance of comedy along with the gore, although I don't think you can have too much comedy.
Great book, onto the next series now 👏
