About this listen
Find out who's trying to kill one of the best-known drag queens in Memphis? No problem. Harley's on the case. Until someone decides she's getting a little too close to the truth....
Halloween's just around the corner, and business is brisk at Memphis Tour Tyme. Harley doesn't need an extra job, but when her pal Tootsie asks her to help Jordan Cleveland, his fellow drag queen, she can't resist poking around in the mystery. How dangerous could it be for her? After all, Jordan's the target of the threats, not her. He's had his brake line cut, a concrete flower pot dropped over his head, a pickup truck nearly ran him down, and someone tried to push him off a sidewalk into heavy traffic. He and Harley think his ex-wife is the most likely culprit, but after Jordan is sideswiped by a car and ends up in the hospital, trouble starts to turn Harley's way. The next thing she knows, she's dangling off the side of the city's famous Peabody Hotel while an anonymous thug tells her to mind her own business...or else.
Things can only get worse, and she ought to heed the demands of her hunky police boyfriend, Mike Morgan, who's really worried. Even the guests at a local Halloween party start to look like suspects. Maybe the guy dressed up as Jay-Z is out to get her. Or one of the Kardashian sisters.
But how dangerous can it be to leave the party just long enough to retrieve her brother's coveted Fender guitar from Tootsie's empty house? Harley will return safe and sound, right?

Halloween spook tastical
I enjoyed this book. It is packed full of unique and quirky characters that find themselves in all sorts of situations. This is book four and you don't need to have listened to the other books in the series to enjoy as they are stand alone mysteries. But you miss out on few laughs and a better picture of the characters and there traits such as Harley's mother visions and her dad's hippy lifestyle and even how Harley meet the hunky Mike Morgan and you have got to love Tootsie. The setting of Memphis is unusual and a nice change, there was a lot of Elvis talk (well she is a tour guide, another unusual job) but it didn't over power the story and in fact gave you a real sense of the setting. It starts with Harley in trouble and then goes back to explain why she is in her current predicament . I think this works well as her mothers warnings has meaning to you if not to Harley herself, building up the tension of the plot. The mystery was good and it did keep you guessing as to what was going on, although I did get a bit fed up with the men in her life keep telling her to but out without telling her why. I hope there is more to come in the series.
When Tootsie fellow drag queen runs into a problem, Tootsie is reluctant to turn to Harley for help knowing the type of trouble she always managed to get herself into. Finally he gives in and asks her to meet Jordan. Jordan thinks after a few near misses and accidents that his ex-wife is trying to kill him and he wants Harley to prove it. It's not long before she discovers her new client isn't telling the whole truth and with the men in her life telling her to stay out of it Harley has her hands full when the would be killer turns there sights on her. Can she figure out what is going on and who is telling the truth before it's to !ate?
I like the use of a male and female narrator it makes for a fun listen.
