Matt Granite plays baseball for his High School team and voted as Most Valuable Player. When they win the sectional High School championship, Matt and his friends are taken to watch the San Francisco Gladiators as a reward. Matt has been passed by every major league baseball team, in the amateur draft. Big league clubs avoid high school catchers like the plague...they never work out. Little does Matt know, but his world is about to change forever.
As he takes his seat, ready for the Big League game, Matt is unaware of a sudden predicament within the Gladiators team, as their two catchers suffer a freak accident and a sudden illness.
It looks like a hopeless situation, but the shrewd young assistant to the General Manager of the Gladiators has other ideas, and he quickly scours the sports pages of the local newspaper and finds Matt’s name.
With only minutes before play, is due to start, he persuades the manager that Matt Granite is their only hope if he could only be found in time.
After several frantic phone calls, it is discovered that Matt is actually in the stadium, and the General Manager tracks him down to Row 25, Seat 12.
Matt Granite is about to take the baseball world by storm. But will this High School kid be accepted by the players, coach, and TV pundits? Will he be able to cope in the pressure cooker environment of Big League Baseball? Or will his madcap friends screw up his big chance? Can the baseball world what happens next.
