Narrator was a little tiring at times and lacked feeling and emotion. I would have preferred a narrator with acting skills to deliver these incredible experiences.

Brilliantly written and narrated. Having been involved in investigating directly 8 Paratroopers executed in the grounds of Chateau Le Grange on the 6/7th June 1944 by a German soldier, l could relate to so much of this story of SAS lads captured and also executed out of hand.
Even using official WW2 documents and interviewing a young family Red Cross nurse who witnessed the massacre when she was just 17 at the Chateau, who was nearing her 100th birthday a few years ago, it took me back to those dark days where young men were slaughtered so out of hand, by those adhering to Hitlers so called Commando order!!!!
After intensive searches for the lone culprits German WW2 Military record l never tracked down the perpetrator which saddens me greatly.
There was no record of his name or indeed how he died, during or after the war!!!

This book is such an incredible, humbling listen. The stories of the escapes of the men of the SAS are themselves a remarkable feat of extraordinary bravery, strength and endurance. Lewis’s natural story telling, interspersed with quotes from the times, secret missives and wartime correspondence transport you into that time, and make these books a must for anybody with a love of WWII history. Already downloaded book 3!

As always a captivating book about the true stories of the SAS written in Damien Lewis inimitable style.

Would have been made better using a professional narrator.

Well written stories of the true accounts of SAS heros of the second world war, though it's hugely let down by being read by Damien Lewis himself. The pace is too slow and there's no emotion in the way it's narrated. It makes some great stories really difficult to engage with, no where near as moving as the stories in the first book, which is unfortunate.

I normally regard the authors work very highly, and the stories told are incredible. Truly inspiring men from the best of generations In the case of this audio book, very much spoiled by Damian Lewis doing the narration, with an off putting, staccato delivery and mispronunciation. You get used to it, but it's a shame.

Another brilliant book by Damien on the SAS Second World War Stories and all the heroes involved. Although I’ve listened to this out of sync i.e vol 1, 3, 2 and now starting to read vol 4 hardback, Damien’s stories are perfectly researched and so factual. A must read.
