Summary
A new ship. A new crew. A different kind of mission.
When Manchester Yards donates a new training vessel to the Merchant Officer Academy at Port Newmar, Alys Giggone recalls the Chernyakova.
She wants Ishmael Wang and his crew to take a crew of cadets into the Deep Dark. They have to sort out the crews of two ships, figure out what lessons they need to teach, and who will get those lessons.
Once they agree, the trouble starts.

story and narration
In the early days Nathan narrated his books himself, he had such a distinct and unique voice and style that when he moved over to Podium and Audible and started using Jeffrey it was really jarring.
It's been years and many books now since that change and it's taken til the last coupleof books for me to finally begin to hear Jeffrey and accept him and wouldn't want anyone else now.
As for the story, joining back up with Ishmael and crew is always like putting on an old pair of slippers and feeling thatcomfort of knowing that you are going to sit down and be cosy for however many hours it takes you to listen.
When i first listened to one of Nathan's books way back when on Podiobooks my first review was titled 'In space, no-one can hear you clean' and nothing much has changed.
Nathan can make the mundanity of every day life so eminently listenable, he takes thebanality of every day tasks and has you rapt with attention.
I really don't know how he does it, it's some sort of alchemy that's never been reproduced, I wouldn't want it to be either as Nathan's stories and style are so uniquely his.
As always five stars across the boards, now it's the wait for book 2. Let's see where the Marva Collins and the Chernyakova end up.

Great read, brilliant author and reader
Have been waiting for so, so long for the next book from Nathan Lowell. Such a fantastic writer and very well complemented by the narration of Jeffery Kafer.
The joy of having the new instalments of Ishmael and Pip have made my day. Listened to all of the clipper ship series and loved every one and was starting to listen back through them again for the 3rd time till I spotted the new book out.
Cannot recommend highly enough.

Slow begining
Another installment of the generally excellent Solar Clipper series and a return to the slice of life tone of most of the books after the more tense 'By Darkness Forged'. While still a good book it seems slower and more hesitant than say 'In Ashes Born' and ends a bit abruptly just about the moment it finds it's pace.

Nathan Lowell is hurting to be back telling his own story's
I have been an avid NATHAN LOWELL fan for years, but this ain't cutting it, going back to quarter share ,where I fell in love with his writing. would rather give libravox £100 a book an carry on getting audibilised .

A wonderful merger
Traders Tales matures fully with the merger of these stories and characters all set in a wonderfully believable universe.

A distinct lack of purpose
The narration was fine and gave life to a story that lacked a real purpose other than portraying characters with lots of money and little else. I kept wondering when the plot was going to come to life but it didn't
