About this listen

Winter, 1361: Edward III has finally agreed a treaty with the captive French King, John II. In return for his freedom, John has ceded vast tracts of territory to the English. But the mercenary bands and belligerent lords will not give up their hard-won spoils to honour a defeated king's promises.

As he battles to enforce Edward's claim, Thomas Blackstone, once again, will face the might of the French army on the field. But this time there will be no English army at his back.

Another cracking book in the series

Each book can stand alone but by going through the series you can see threads running, if not from book to book, the author picks up past experiences which adds to the interest. The men that have followed Sir Thomas Blackstone on the continent are there as are various villains of the piece intent on killing our hero. The skullduggery of the different rulers of Milan, Florence, the Dauphin and king of France plus of course the English king and Prince of Wales provide a backdrop behind the battles, skirmishes and assassination attempts. Love interest? Certainly, a seductive Countess, not to be messed with!
A thoroughly enjoyable book really good narration by Mr Mace again. On to the next book in the series

This amazing series continues

Once again the story of Blackstone does not fail to impress.

Superb story telling by Gilman, with rich colourful characters that take you on a journey with Blackstone cleverly and brilliantly narrated by Mace.

Highly recommend this book along with all the others in the series- can’t wait for the next one.

Please tell me there is another book coming!

Five books in and with Colin Mace onboard, the Master of War series is well placed to become even better. I really hope that David Gilman continues this excellent story!
