About this listen
"Sometimes I wonder.... Can a ghost find you if she wants to?"
An intricate tale of love, haunting memories, and renewal, Second Glance begins in current-day Vermont, where an old man puts a piece of land up for sale and unintentionally raises protest from the local Abenaki Indian tribe, who insist it's a burial ground. When odd, supernatural events plague the town of Comtosook, a ghost hunter is hired by the developer to help convince the residents that there's nothing spiritual about the property.
Enter Ross Wakeman, a suicidal drifter who has put himself in mortal danger time and again. He's driven his car off a bridge into a lake. He's been mugged in New York City and struck by lightning in a calm country field. Yet despite his best efforts, life clings to him and pulls him ever deeper into the empty existence he cannot bear since his fiancée's death in a car crash eight years ago. Ross now lives only for the moment he might once again encounter the woman he loves. But in Comtosook, the only discovery Ross can lay claim to is that of Lia Beaumont, a skittish, mysterious woman who, like Ross, is on a search for something beyond the boundary separating life and death.
Thus begins Jodi Picoult's enthralling and ultimately astonishing story of love, fate, and a crime of passion. Hailed by critics as a "master" storyteller (Washington Post), Picoult once again "pushes herself, and consequently the reader, to think about the unthinkable" (Denver Post). Second Glance, her eeriest and most engrossing work yet, delves into a virtually unknown chapter of American history - Vermont's eugenics project of the 1920s and '30s - to provide a compelling study of the things that come back to haunt us - literally and figuratively. Do we love across time or in spite of it?

Well written not believable
Loved the writing and the weaving of the story was clever, as one would expect from Jodi Picoult. But I’m not a fan of the beyond belief premise. I expected a different approach. Therefore a disappointment.

Loved it
Big fan of Jody Picoult and this didn’t disappoint- even when I guessed early on how the characters were linked it didn’t make this any less gripping as a story - in fact I couldn’t stop listening just to get to the point when everyone in the book realised too!!

AMAZING AS PER USUAL!
The book begins with lots of characters intertwining like the threads of a beautifully weaved Persian carpet, with the final product being perfect. As per usual Ms. Picoult wrote a fantastic, beautiful book with some amazing facts that makes one think about humankind and it's ethics. Highly recommend!!!

Just when I needed it.
The escape from the world where I currently live was welcome, just when I needed it.

Enjoyed it in spite of my misgivings
My heart sank when I realised that this was about ghosts and I almost gave up on it at an early stage. However, I persevered, and realised that it was about so much more. As usual, Jodie Picoult is worth reading/listening to.

Not my favourite
I have been working my way through Jodi Picoult’s novels and loved each one until this one. There were aspects of the plot and characters which really captivated me but there were aspects which really bugged me. I think I prefer her more realistic novels.

Excellent story
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and narration, the way the characters weaved together. I’m only sorry it’s finished

Started slow but...
At first I thought I was not going to like it, wasn’t sure about the ghost hunters etc, but as usual Jodi brought all elements together and it became intriguing with many twists and turns. Just not as good as some of her other books but still well worth a read.

Silly
Super characterisation, great narration and an intriguing premise but towards the end I realised that the only reason I was persevering was that I cared about the characters. Been wondering if I had chosen a teen fiction book by mistake.

Not for me
I gave this book 2 tries and gave up after the second. The narrator is excellent but the words in the story are, for naught of a better word, airy fairy. There are so many leads in and out of the story that to be honest, it did not hold my attention in the least, in fact I fell asleep twice! If after the first hour I could not give this book my attention or grab onto it, then it was not for me.
