About this listen

As one of the top paid defense-men in the NHL, my life has been a revolving door of beautiful women and no-strings-attached sex. Until Brynne.

It was only supposed to be a one-night-fling. Hell, it wasn't even supposed to be that. I knew the cardinal rule. Don't touch the coach's daughter. And for years, I kept my hands to myself. It wasn't difficult considering Brynne Jacobs hates my guts.

She can't stand being in the same room as me - except for that one night. A night that left me hell bent on having more. Having all of her. But she took off. No text. No explanation. Not even a goodbye.

Now she's back, but she's not alone. She's got a kid. A kid with all-too-familiar blue eyes and dimples. Math might not be my strong suit, but a quick calculation and I know the baby is mine. And she's delusional if she thinks I'm going to let her keep him from me.

Damaged. Callous. Cold. Those are the words she uses to describe me. And I've never claimed to be anything more. But for her - for them - I want to be.

I've been a fighter on the ice my entire life. Now, I'm fighting for the one thing I've spent my life running from - family.

Author's note: This is a stand-alone spin-off of the Amazon Top 25 best seller, Second Draft. You do not have to hear Second Draft first. No cliffhanger, and a guaranteed happily ever after.

Second shot

I loved this story, I liked the characters and though I like the narrator I wish it would've been a dual narrative, but that didn't detract to this good this story is or to the narrator

Stand alone story

While this is the second book in the series, you don't have to listen to the first book (Second Draft) to enjoy this one. There's only a brief cameo from one of the characters in the first book. This book was more complex (and better) than I expected. It is a sports romance, but it doesn't shy away from tough topics like addiction. There is a lot of set up for the third book in the series, which I'm interested in listening to.

Evelyn Marcail was a new narrator for me. I prefer that dual first person POV books have dual narrators, but she did really well with the narration.

Great Hockie Romance

C.M. Seabrook really does know how to write a story that makes the reader not want it to end and she certainly did this with Second Shot. I loved Brynne and Kane's chemistry is real and raw.

This is a great listen and Evelyn Marcail does a great job narrating and bringing their story to life.

Good second change romance

I liked the storyline. There were a few holes that I wish had been explained but overall it was a good listen. I didn’t love the narrator for the story, I’m not a huge fan of one narrator for multiple POVs especially when they don’t change their voice and the inflections were odd to me. Not enough that I wouldn’t listen but if your super particular I’d suggest listening to the sample first to be sure.

Angsty

This was an angsty story about a hockey player, Kane, and his love, Brynne, who is the coach's daughter. That's not the biggest issue. He was also her brother's best friend but she blames him for her brother's death. She also blames her father. So there's that arc. There's a lot of blame going around! And then add in the surprise baby because Brynne and Kane had one night together- and she then proceeds to hide herself away from him for a year. And then there's the set up for Kane's sister- who is obviously in trouble.

Inevitably, this leads to lots of angsty emotions, sometimes irrational and frustrating. However, perhaps it was the angsty nature that made their HEA very satisfying. I loved the scenes of Kane with his son too (the cover for the book and audiobook is perfect).

The audiobook featured Evelyn Marcail and she's new to me. She was good at playing the multiple characters, both male and female. I do wish there was a male narrator for Kane's point of view. It seems like many books are going this way especially when written in first person so perhaps this author will consider that for her future books!

Secrets Revealed

This book has so many facets. I loved the theme of hope, love, forgiveness, redemption and healing. The author did an awesome job touching on the issue of addiction and how it affects so many. As a parent of someone battling addiction, the emotions involved were spot on. The chance at love was also prevalent in this heartfelt story. Unconditional love is so special, and not earned, but freely given. This book will stick with me on many aspects.
The narrator did a fantastic performance with the various character voices and all of the emotions. My review is not a synopsis of the book, but rather my opinion of it. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review.
