About this listen

The idyllic kingdom of Parisia sat nuzzled securely into massive basin in the Great Emerald Mountains. The kingdom was protected by the Darkstone, which blessed the kingdom with generations of peace and prosperity. When the elder dragon Darka Mors steals the Darkstone, the entire realm is shaken. Desperate, the King calls on a group of Seekers led by the Disgraced Knight Vale Lox.

To save the realm and everyone they have ever known from the rising shadows of darkness, the team of misfits must survive hostile lands, enemy armies, unspeakable monsters, and each other. With each member motivated by different goals, can they learn to trust each other and work together? Or will their differences bring about their downfall, and the ruin of all?

Great Fantasy Book!

"Pressure is life's way of removing the masks people wear"

Great quote from a great book (and makes a lot of sense in the story!). I had shown interest in reviewing the audiobook for this story so thank you to the author for allowing me to do so. I also got the ebook to read along (audiobook definitely helped with name pronunciation).

This is a fantasy book with no swearing, made up swear words are used and it's easy to tell what word they are replacing lol. There are many characters so some may struggle to begin with but having read the Game of Thrones books I don't shy away from lots of characters.

The mission itself could be considered a but dull in real life but the author manages to keep it exciting with lots of twists and turns that leave you questioning who you can trust. There were definitely characters I liked more than others but that is the way the author intended it so I am intrigued where things will go for some of them.

I enjoyed the book being a purely fantasy book and not a live story with a hint of fantasy. I like romantasy too but sometimes I just feel like the adventure 😊

Having played games like Dungeons and Dragons I enjoyed the use of different classes and races so you could almost imagine yourself "playing" along as you read. (Could be a side project for the author to consider? A D&D type campaign based on Shadows of the Dark Realm 😊)

I really enjoyed this book and am definitely keen to read (or listen to) the next book ❤️

Lord of the Rings and Dungeons & Dragons had a baby…and its Shadows of the Dark Realm!!

What a ralking epic read. This was a long audiobook but WOW!! I’m so happy I took the chance on a long commitment. This is honestly one of the best fantasy books ever. Yes, I listened to it but that doesn’t stop me understanding the exceptional writing! Tyler Edwards is an incredible author and Sam Legg does a superb job of infusing the characters with life.

Let’s start with the world building. It’s always been a favourite thing of mine about Tyler as an author. The worlds that he builds are full of mystery and are epic in scale. Through into that his on words and names and you have a Tolkien-esqe level of world creation.

Another exemplary piece of writing is in the characters. All of the characters involved are spectacularly well written and a joy to read. There are a clear couple of favourites, Azalea and Caelan. Both have brilliant humour and sarcasm in their characters and their interactions in the same pages are hysterical.

Overall Shadows of the Dark Realm is a stunning piece of literature and one that I WILL be purchasing physically for my book shelf. Thank you Tyler for writing a superb book and being a great human! It’s been amazing interacting with you on socials! Make sure you follow him! Shadows of the Dark Realm is a MUST for fantasy fans!

I’ll leave you with one of Caelan’s famous insults: "Anyone ever tell you that you have the personality of a constipated golem?"
