About this listen

In today's digitally driven world, disaster is only a click away. A rogue tweet can bring down a business; an army of trolls can run a celebrity off-line; and virtual harassment might cause real psychological damage.

Shame Nation is the first book to both explore the fascinating phenomenon of online shaming and offer practical guidance and inspiring advice on how to prevent and protect against cyber blunders and faceless bullies. Author and acclaimed Internet safety expert Sue Scheff unveils all sides of an issue that is only becoming more relevant day by day while drawing from the expertise of other top professionals spanning fields including law, psychology, and reputation management.

From damning screenshots to revenge porn, Shame Nation shines a light on the rising trend of online shame culture and empowers listeners to take charge of their digital lives.

Enjoyable

Won’t listen again - however, I am glad that I have listened to it once and gained insight.

Painful to listen to but some inherent value

This audiobook is too emotionally driven. Yes, there are some valuable points, but she comes across as someone who is too soft and fluffy to be credible. A constant sense of 'are you ok' or 'be brave' or 'you can survive' makes it cringey at times. This book is not worth the hours of ear time, but if you want some cheap moral fluff with a few interesting insights it might be for you

Everyone who uses the internet needs to read this.

Everyone who uses the internet needs to read this.

It’s an eyeopener to the accelerating rise in online shame with lots of resources on how to cope.

Already, I found some parts out of date. Blocking and even coming off SM is not the problem, it’s what’s left behind on a global stage that does the damage now and there is nothing you can do about it unless you have a lot of money for defamation cases.

Social media should not be controlling the core of people’s lives, yet it is and it’s about time they were taken to account for the rising suicides from online shaming.

Thanks Sue

Robotic narrator

I haven’t got past chapter one because the narrator sounds like she could be related to Alexa. It’s like those voices that automatically reads subtitles.

Bad

This book is more like a collection of shaming histories; boring. There is no reflection nor critical review of the topic.
