Summary

A chain, a portal, and darkness. That was all it took for Rob's life to go from the mundanity of college to being forced to survive in a hostile fantasy world full of horribly mutated creatures.

Despite discovering civilization and making allies, his newfound home was sadly short-lived, leaving the survivors to pick up the pieces and make for greener pastures. Having won the respect of the locals via a heroic almost-sacrifice, Rob travels with them, recognizing the importance of having people around to watch your back.

After all, if he's learned one thing since arriving to this strange new world inhabited by monstrosities and ruled by levels, stats, progression, and bizarre video game logic, it's that death is lurking around every corner.

A botched meeting with the Elven ruler's soldiers leads to thousands of people, Rob included, fleeing to the northern wastelands. Ambushes from monsters and men are the least of his worries—dealing with the system's assaults on his mind and the occasional eldritch abomination are far worse. As Rob slowly loses himself, fighting to stay as a person his loved ones back on Earth would recognize, he realizes that surviving just for the sake of seeing the next day isn't going to be enough to keep him sane. He and his friends will need to kindle their spirits, band together, and learn to support each other both physically and mentally.

By all rights, they'll perish. They're the underdogs, and world history isn't kind to those. Every inspiring legend of success is built on the graves of a thousand defeats. Society, the system, and the very world itself are against them. In the face of odds like that, what can they possibly do?

Simple: survive.

Bit slower than the first book, but still a blast

This book has a slower pace and less action than the first book, but is still an enjoyable listen.
Rob continues to be an interesting character and I like the new additions to the crew.
Overall Stat readouts are easily skippable which I am very grateful for.
The narrator continues to do a good job.

Looking forward to the next one.

Oh my heart ❤

loved it, surprisingly deep levels of introspection from the most unlikely of places. Some adorable moments as well.

Quite disappointing

Book one was quite enjoyable. The Rob’s character came across overly naive and bumbling at times. Book two turns this up to 11, as a character he is dragged through the story with no real agency of his own 2’r lol g he does make an independent decision he is berated for it or apologies to the point of nausea.

In Shared Insanity his progress feels artificially slowed down for the sole purpose of letting everyone around him “catch up”. The very nature of fast learner means even with a lesser version no one will ever be able to keep up unless the author does as they have done here.

Sadly this has dosed my interest in what happens next in the saga.

going down hill

ok i really was enjoying this series but the author has turned rob into a completely whiney, mopey character, the possible love interest is being usurped which i suppose is ok, even though it was s good way to go but theres a lack of direction now, i hope the next book isnt so much of a let down.

So pain full

I hoped this would be a good book, but I was rolling my eyes around most of the time. I played this at 1.2 speed and still kept falling asleep cus it was so boring and just going with the whining.

The only good part of it was skill AI :)

Another way to put it this that you can skip this book easily as nothing really impactful to the storyline happens.
