Summary
In a world plagued with demons, bandits, and shape-shifters, Catherine finds herself straying from her pack as they escape the hunters that stumbled across their camp. Finding herself in Oakwood, the land of the gentry, the brazen peasant finds herself attracting all sorts of attention.
Catherine must find a way to survive in the world of the nobles, even if that means being auctioned off to the highest bidder. Her world turns on its head as a chance encounter with a man known as the Highland Reaper turns into a secret love affair. How will this notorious killer react when he finds out what she truly is? Will his unsavory past come back to bite them both? Too many choices, too many expectations, and two questions.
How do you tame a wolf?
How can you love a monster?

fun and feisty with characters to adore
from the point of view of a number of characters, it was so easy to like the chemistry between them and enjoy the banter that ensued.
I do love a strong female main character and Catherine is a force to be reckoned with. I love her confidence and fiery personality and she does and says what she wants, consequences be damned. Her only secret is her shifter heritage and that she can transform into a wolfish form, which she has to hide from the Olden family for fear of being killed.
I hated how her pack treated her and was happy that she had the courage to choose the path she wanted to follow. Her choice influenced others in her family to see that life in the pack isn't what life should be like. But how many will have the courage to make the same choice.
The Olden brothers and their banter was fun to read and it was even better when Catherine was involved. Honeslty some of the comments and insults had me laughing out loud. The boys all, in one form or another, love her and will protect her at all costs. So due to the cliff hanger ending I can't wait to dive into the next book!
this is a great fantasy book and if you like Scottish references, shifters, forbidden love and amazing character chemistry, then I totally recommended this one.

Addictive and curious
I have never read a book that makes you passionately fall in love with every character, even the ones you want to hate! The more you hear the more you need to know! Fantastically written to keep you interested and utterly in love. On to the next one for me.

Great Scottish fantasy romance
The first thing I would say is the as an audiobook this really worked with good Scottish narration. The narration helped to set the scene and really give voice to the characters.
Now for a warning about this book it ends on a cliffhanger! Just when I thought things were being nicely tied together bam!
So, that has led me to wanting the next book to find out what happens next.
The plot is interesting, it is a historical fantasy. We have clans, witches and wolves along with other fantasy creatures. To start with there were too many characters for me to get my head around but I did get there in the end. I found the strength of Katherine great as a character but I did hate the fact that everyone seemed to fall in love with her.
I loved Tristan, he was your typical brooding heartbroken male who really needed to be made happy. He was accepting and understanding about the fact that his girlfriend could turn into a wolf.
If you like a steamy fantasy set in the past with elements of outlander fighting for territory this is a great book.

Great Book
Shattered Steel Audio
I have got to say I struggled with the narrator at frist it just not the voice I thought. We are diving into a deep fantasy. The plot begins when a wounded Catherine is discovered by gallant, youthful Theodore--from there, we meet the entire Olden sibling clan and are thrown into a world of misadventure. Character-driven stories, kissing and killing, and mediaeval worldbuilding are all featured. A strong female lead a lot of action, humour, and sexual tension between the characters. It's wonderfully written and flows smoothly. The world-building was fantastic; I could easily imagine Catherine's world and enjoyed every minute! The evil land and sea animals were the icing on the cake. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the enormous chicken that can turn people to stone. The fact that kingdom politics do not make me shudder is also positive in my book.
