Summary

Some people are ordained for greatness…

Those people usually have a lot of drama in their life. Drama I happily do without. I live in a forgotten corner of nowhere for a reason: there is safety in anonymity. I have enough problems just trying to get by.

But when Kieran, a sinfully sexy demigod at the pinnacle of power, crashes into my life, suddenly my whole world is turned upside down.

He’s harboring a deadly secret, one that could destroy all he holds dear. He thinks I’m the key to his salvation, and he wants me to help him claim vengeance.

He also wants me with a passion that burns my body from the inside out.

To ignore him is impossible, but to give in to my desires, even for a night, would thrust me into danger I might not survive.

Can I resist the temptation?

Ok story; questionable narration.

Were I not on holiday, I probably wouldn't have finished this. The story itself was ok but the narrators "Irish" accents boardered on offensive. As such, my issues with the characters themselves were probably amplified by the accents, though the scenes in the bar were certainly a tad naff regardless.

Not really the whole story, but a good start

As with many series in this genre, this feels like the start of the story, rather than a story in itself - the appetizer rather than a main course. Also like others in this genre, the romance is borderline psychotic. The male protagonist is your traditional alpha-hole with stalker/violent/controlling tendencies but he's just "so HOT" right? Our heroine is, of course, forgiving of his foibles given he's HOT and misses his mum, but shows a disturbing sort of hormone-driven short term amnesia - describing him as "never cruel" only a few hours after he essentially tortures her. If you can accept that this is all just fantasy and ignore the burning red flags this character dynamic raises - the rest is fun! Her wards are entertainingly snarky and our female protagonist has a dry wit similar to the Leveling Up Series. The narrator is good - though her Irish accent is as predictably terrible as they are in most American audiobooks - and voices the characters well. I will read the next one, but if it's a chapter rather than a book - I'm giving up.

A slow build, but really great characters. Left me wanting to read the next one immediately!

Wow, This Is A Powerful & Spirited 4.5 Listen.🎧⭐️

Sin & Chocolate: Demigods of San Francisco, Book 1
By: K.F. Breene
Audiobook 🎧
Narrated by: Khristine Hvam
Length: 9 hrs and 56 mins

I think this narrator is really good but I do find the nasally tone of some of the voices a bit grating.👃 It does get more bearable as the book goes on.😍

Ok, so we have 'sort of' single Mum Alexis. She is magical, although due to its type, she doesn't like using it. She sees ghosts and can help them cross over!😳 Her mum always taught her to hide as much about herself & her magic as possible, so she did, and it has become a habit to hide in the cracks between the magical & human communities.

She is the Guardian to two teens - Mordecai & Daisy. He is an orphaned shifter who has an illness caused by his shifter genes. His medication is expensive, but they manage to just scrape enough money together for it every month. He's getting worse, though. His pain seems to seep through his eyes no matter how much he tries to hide it, plus his cough. It was so bad!😢 Daisy is human, no magic at all, but survival is a life lesson she shouldn't need to know at 14 yrs old. Her mother was a junkie who had died of an overdose when she was a toddler, so she'd survived in 'the system' until Alexis saved her aged 10. Daisy has seen far too much, but thankfully, it was only seen!! These three are completely dysfunctional, but they'll be loyal to each other with their last breaths. They all love each other deeply & unconditionally, they're family, and they'd chosen each other!!🙏💙💕

Kieran is a Demigod, he's Sinfully sexy, as Alpha A-Hole as you can get, yet with his face & body most would let it slide. He's clearly not heard the word 'no' often 😂 He loves Guinness, smells of the rolling sea and sometimes his his Irish accent burrs through his deep, sultry scraped voice 😜😎 Alexis hasn't a single clue who's path she's just walked into and if she did she'd probably run crying!!😳 Kieran is on mission when he 'bumps' into Alexis. His crew, his six most loyal & closest friends and colleagues, are hunting for someone to help his mother! She's in dire straits & so far no-one has been of use - then he reads Alexis magic and - Let the 'not stalking' stalking commence!!😳😂

This book was a complete delight. You know going in that you'll have some fun with K.F Breene when she's writing in this genre, what I had forgotten was that she can gut punch you in the feels department so you're choking on your own sobs too!!😱😭 Seriously, I know I'm overly emotional due to hormones, but was that really necessary? 😳🙈 Lol

I was kept on the edge of my seat by the will they/won't they? Because, my God, Kieran & Alexis are smoking hot together 🚬🔥 I'd like to get to see more of Kieran & the #SexySix interacting normally, like at the pool 😋 *sigh* Only because they all seemed much more relaxed of course 😎 Being half naked has nothing to do with it, Sheesh 😇 I loved that entire scene 💙💕 The frog splat ... That's totally what happens to normal people, well me 🙈😂 Hysterically funny 😂 Hours later, as I'm writing my review, I realised I've randomly giggled all day today and it's because either another scene or snark filled comment flew through my head 😊😂 Now that really impressed me as my memory is notoriously bad!!👍

I need to give a special mention to Mordecai and Daisy because they really kept this book humble in the best of ways! They are both beautifully strong and undoubtedly broken but from their broken places, with each other's help, support & love they've both become stronger, more resilient and are ready to take on their world along side Alexis. It's her that gave them their safety, that first glimpse of unconditional love and guidance!🙏💙💕🍀 #LOTR #SiblingLove #Family

There is so much in this story that I can't wait for more to find out what's next! 😊 All of the spiritual stuff through Alexis was completely gripping! The big reveal at the end - 💥 that was my mind blowing up 😳
The pacing, world building & characters are so spot on. It was almost as though I'd been there before, but I havent, this is brand new, and you could feel that freshness too!! It's not a DDVN book. It's not a Darkness book, it's a Demigod of San Francisco book, Book 1, and it's thrilling, so grab wine for Sin & chocolate for .. 😉
Yep, enjoy because I know I did 😀🎉 🍷+ 🍫

Great story, terrible Irish (?) accent.

The concept and the story is really good but the narrator's accent for the character sounds like a drunken slur

I really love the story, but the accents...

I have to admit, I have gotten used to terrible Irish accents in popular media, but I can’t believe the narrator didn’t know how to pronounce “Galway”. That hurt.

Also Samwise Gamgee. In fact, more so, as the LotR references are a running joke in the book so this should have been a word the narrator was familiar with.

I just feel that a narrator should look things like this up if they’re not sure...

Anyway! Love this book muchly, so much so that I got the audiobook for whispersync so I could be somewhat productive and not lose my day curled up and reading. Definite recommend :)
