I throughly enjoyed this story, the story telling and narration was beautifully presented. All my life I’ve been drawn to the history of the slave trade especially the transatlantic/Caribbean slavery. I am British of black Caribbean and Jewish heritage, Eastern European and Portuguese Jew, born in London the early 1960’s. An unusual mix at anytime now and in history. I grew up with my white Jewish family. Attending synagogue and learning Hebrew. I’ve travelled extensively to many African countries and all over the Caribbean and America researching chattel slavery.
It was with amazement that I read this beautiful novel, and for the first time read about both my heritages brought together in a novel rather than a factual book. My grandfathers family left Germany in 1848 to come to England, and my grandmothers family left Portugal during the Spanish Inquisition (1769) to flew to Holland.
I fell in love with the characters in this book, their journey of sisterhood, slavery and love. The characters had depth and the book was so well researched and written. I could picture myself there, which is a first for me with a novel.
I wanted to thank the author for this beautiful story of both my cultures during a period of time that is rarely thought of with love and positivity.
Thank you and I’m looking forward to reading more of your books.

This book is absolutely brilliant, it’s got a bit of everything in it, that any keen reader of true to life events, will enjoy. We know from history, similar happenings did occur!!!. I highly recommend it, the narration is spoken to perfection. I couldn’t put it down. It’s a credit to the Authour. What a fantastic story too. It does not disappoint in anyway Thank you

This book explores and beautifully resolves the complex intersections of wealth, war and culture in North Georgia and the southern US states in the mid 1800s. The story is well woven around two sisters. Their father, a shrewd wealthy Jewish landowner, their mothers, the mistress and the slave girl. The story explores all the complex themes of entitlement and servitude and deeply entrenched beliefs about women and land.
Exceptionally performance with engaging and consistent voices of characters. I thoroughly enjoyed the time spent in their company.
