THE INSTANT SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER

From the
New York Times bestselling author of Digital Minimalism and one of the world's top productivity experts, a groundbreaking philosophy for creating great work at a sustainable pace.

Hustle culture. Burnout. Quiet quitting. Today we're either sacrificing ourselves on the altar of success or we're rejecting the idea of ambition entirely. But it doesn't have to be all or nothing. There is a way to create meaningful work as part of a balanced life, and it's called 'slow productivity'.

Coined by Cal Newport, the bestselling author of Deep Work and Digital Minimalism, slow productivity is a revolutionary philosophy based on three simple principles:
1. Do fewer things.
2. Work at a natural pace.
3. Obsess over quality.

Examining the stories and habits of ancient and modern scientists, philosophers, artists and scholars who worked in this way, Newport reveals just how transformative the slow productivity approach can be to producing a meaningful body of work.

From managing your energy according to the season, to identifying which projects to pursue and which to set aside, to building a schedule that yields maximum output with minimum stress, this timely and essential book will revolutionise how you work, helping you to accomplish great things at a more humane pace.

Diligent research and excellent explanation through story telling. Wonderfully narrated. A joy to listen to from beginning to end.

A different take on productivity

I thought the main points were very interesting and overall it was a thought provoking book. But I do think there were too many similar examples, and parts of this book felt like they went on a tangent and it became a chore to listen to. I also think the writer unnecessarily used complex vocabulary at times which made it feel like an English language essay.

Interesting points. Maybe too many examples

struggled with this book at the start and didn't think that I would like it but actually I found some really compelling examples and my take on it is how to actually work hard but in a manner that's much more balance and equate with our natural energy systems

I agree 100% with the Slow Productivity mindset. I will certainly change some things in my life now.

Too many people are suffering under the stress of work, information overload and can’t seem to break out of the constant push for more. This book offers an alternative vision and way of work that if taken on might just save your life and mental health. Brilliant.

Clear and well argued, 3 core strands that made sense and were accessible. Actionable advice, despite the abstract nature of the base topic

I really enjoyed this book, as I have His others. I work for myself and currently feel I’m on the edge of burnout and this has given me the permission I needed ( which of course I don’t need from anyone else) to stop and take a break and redefine my working life.

Exactly what I needed to be reminded of

I like the thinking behind the book, but the examples are way too long for my taste and too much based on artists, writers and scientist stories. To few examples from business life.

Too Long

Admit that for 200,000 years we haven't been working the same hours a day at the same intensity. We have been seasonal creatures, within that model we can feel balanced and be productive as long as we occasionally take a birds eye view of our systems on occasion to understand what is working to our betterment.

Implement change to make a more satisfying relationship with work.

informative and well researched collection of evidence to set out an idea that slaying down created better results and how to go about making more time to slow down.
