Not the right narrator for this book
The story was great and complex as always. The narrator was not good with upper class English accents nor with many French terms. Was there no editor to correct his mispronunciation of English, such as reading demur as demure?

A good story ruined by the narrator
I have always enjoyed the David Audley books and Soldier No More is one of my favourites. It is a poor narrator, totally out of touch with what he is reading , who gives the Sussex born, upper class, public school and Cambridge educated Audley a YORKSHIRE accent. It was at odds with the book tself which describes Audley's voice as having a typical public school drawl. This complete lack of sympathy with the author's presentation of character ruined the recording.
