Fascinating idea but lacked a story

Possible Spoiler: I found the premise of the books interesting, the writing very good giving rich images and the narration excellent. Having finished the series I felt it just didn’t go anywhere, but here I am worried that is too much of a spoiler. I continued as I was fascinated by the representation of the people of the Mediterranean, especially the travelling, social layers, conflicts etc. I enjoyed the time travel. Just didn’t like the repeating theme over 3 books. On the whole I recommend the books, it helps visualise life 3,000 years ago, just misses a story.
