About this listen

Contains books one and two of the humorous sci-fi Jane Bond series.

Some Assembly Required, book one

An alien pilot. A chocolate cake. A doomed relationship or two.

Jane’s life as an elementary school librarian gets sidetracked when she digs up the AI pilot of a 140-million-year-old spacecraft. Now, she’s running all over the world looking for spaceship parts, falling in and out of love, and trying to keep her friends from thinking she’s crazy. To make matters worse, the ship she’s recovering is starting to sound a bit more like the Death Star than the Millennium Falcon. When did life get so complicated?

Dark Side of the Moon, book two

Fully stocked spaceship garage - check. Fully prepped spaceship - check. Fully trained...and ready to pilot? Jane’s got her own spaceship, but she has no idea how to even get it out of the garage, let alone fly it. No worries, everything’s under control - meet Olive, Jane’s new pilot!

Jane finds some very interesting things in the basement left behind when Kit went away. Among them is a fully operational space ship. After an almost shattering start, Jane and her friends are globetrotting again, with the addition of Olive to pilot the ship - and make pancakes. Olive isn’t a real person, but she’s working hard at becoming one - and learning how to make pancakes and waffles along the way. But will pancakes be enough to deal with Jane’s mom and whatever lies on the dark side of the moon?

Loved it. Can't wait to hear the next one. Lots of great sci-fi tv and film references.

Great story

was a bit confused as to where it was going to start with, but when kit and olive come into play it's great

I really enjoyed this "publisher's pack" of books one and two. Whilst the story was a little weak the characters were fun and enjoyable and I found it very easy to listen to - a kind of audio "page turner". I'll certainly be listening to the rest of the series - I'm dying to find out if Olive becomes "a real live girl" and if she gets herself a girlfriend!

I thought the narration was great with good distinction between the characters. The only weakness being the Australian accents which rather brought to mind Dick Van Dyke's attempt at a cockney accent in Marry Poppins.

Great Escapist Fun

For some reason had this sitting in my library for a while and picked up other books to listen to instead but when I got round to it, absolutely loved it, fun story fabulously read.

The reader is exactly right for this throwback style of sci-fi.
It has a large, stylistic nod to the pulp years of Bob Heinlein.

Lightweight fun.

Sorry, but there is no story in that story. No character building or any sort of progression in the book. The voice actress doing superb job tho

No plot , no plot twists, just dull

Interesting premise that runs out of steam quite quickly. Tried as an “included” book so wouldn’t have purchased it.

Gets dull and repetitive on the narrative and eventually gave up.

Wouldn’t surprise me if the book was written by AI with a bit of plot guiding from the “authors”.

Wouldn’t surprise me if this was written by AI
