Summary

She lost her arm in a shark attack and nearly died, but she never lost her faith. Now a major motion picture, Soul Surfer is the moving story of Bethany Hamilton’s triumphant return to competitive surfing and has continued to be a beacon of inspiration to all who hear it.

They say Bethany Hamilton has saltwater in her veins. How else could one explain the passion that drives her to surf? Or that nothing—not even the loss of her arm—could come between her and the waves? That Halloween morning in Kauai, Hawaii, Bethany responded to the shark’s stealth attack with the calm of a teenage girl with God on her side, resolutely pushing aside her pain and panic while being rescued and brought back to shore.

“When can I surf again?” was the first thing Bethany asked after her emergency surgery, leaving no doubt that her spirit and determination were part of a greater story—a tale of personal empowerment and spiritual grit that shows the body is no more essential to surfing, perhaps even less so, than the soul.

A truly inspirational book

Where does Soul Surfer rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Soul surfer is one of the best audio books we've listened to ! Engaging and inspirational - it tells a story and motivates at the same time.

What other book might you compare Soul Surfer to, and why?

Soul surfer doesn't compete with any other books. It's in a league of it's own. It's part autobiography and part spiritual guidance book.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

We enjoyed the chapter about the making of 'Soul Surfer' the movie. It really captured how it must feel to suddenly be the star of a Hollywood movie...plus your family is too.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The whole book moves you...Bethany's belief that she can love and achieve more with one arm than two and that this was the awesome plan God had for her despite the circumstance is moving and inspirational.

Any additional comments?

A feelgood factor book. Skims over the shark attack enough that you can hear this book as a family. Teaches us all something...that Faith is something to live and breathe...so listen to this book and start living !

Heart-felt and inspiring

Excellent account of a girl with such great faith and fortitude. The book was very well read, though part of it was repeated.
