About this listen
Local Girl Swept Off Her Feet
Mild-mannered PR girl Holly Phillips doesn't think much of costumed vigilante Ultimate Man - and after his superpowered antics leave her hoisted over his shoulder and flashing her knickers in the newspaper the next day, she's embarrassed beyond belief. But when Holly's 15 minutes of fame make her a target for something villainous, she has only one place to turn - and finds the man behind the mask holds a lot more charm than his crime-fighting alter ego. Can Holly find love, or is superdating just as complicated as the regular kind?
Would like to meet: nice guy, likes dogs, gsoh and no superpowers

Enjoyed.
Really enjoyed it. A mix of superhero and romance. Though I really wonder about the ending and if we re see move of them soon.

Fun superhero romcom
Where does Spandex and the City rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I've listened to a ton of audios over the years so this was a long way from one of the best ones. That said, it was still a light and fun story that was well worth the credit and time.
What did you like best about this story?
The humour and the romance. I also liked the fact that Jenny T. Colgan managed to throw in a few surprises along the way as that kept things interesting.
What three words best describe Antonia Beamish’s voice?
It is hard to sum up Antonia Beamish's performance in a few words. She did a pretty average job with this one. I actually felt like she missed the tone of the story which made for a few cringeworthy moments. She was acceptable though.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me laugh and smile a few times which should be the goal of any good romcom!
Any additional comments?
This was a fun superhero romcom. Some of the humour worked and some of it fell a bit flat but the characters did prove a likeable bunch and the story always had enough about it to hold my attention. Despite this story having superheroes it had the feel of a regular contemporary romcom rather than the typical UF superhero book feel.

Fun, but distracting accents
I love Jenny Colgan, and this was a fun, breezy story. However, it felt like it could have been proofed better - writing was a bit sloppy in places. Also, the main character thinks/narrates with a British accent but talks not-great-American, which I found distracting and unnecessary. I'd recommend Resistance is Futile over this one, any day.
