Summary
Ally Marshall isn't just a wolf shifter - she's a Seer. But a girl doesn't exactly need special powers to know that Derren Hudson despises her entire kind. Disdain practically rolls off the Beta of the Mercury Pack... disdain mixed with a healthy dose of desire. And no matter how much the ruggedly handsome male appeals to her, this is one call of the wild she's determined to ignore.
After one betrayal too many, Derren doesn't have much use for Seers - except for Ally. Forced into acting as her protector, he finds himself intensely and passionately drawn to the woman who incites his primal instinct to claim. And when enemies target the pack, Ally's gift may be just what the Mercury Pack needs. Can he put his distrust aside, or will he force himself to turn his back on the one woman who makes his inner beast howl?

pretty much as expected same as Phoenix pack
Would you listen to Spiral of Need again? Why?
Probably not though I enjoyed listening to this It's too similar to other books in the series I wouldn't have a problem to listen again if it was all I had available
If you’ve listened to books by Suzanne Wright before, how does this one compare?
Yes and its a variation on the same formula as in the previous books. It probably works as a stand alone book but is probably better read in sequence ie after the Phoenix pack book 4.
If you haven't read them - Read Feral Sins first, its a better book! It also introduces some of the characters. Most of the rest arrive in books 2 to 4.
The story is very predicable - brooding male and feisty female thrown together against their will, both have issues to work through. There is the usual combination of dangerous situations and bedroom action sticking to the same formula as the other books.
Its fairly obvious what is going to happen before even the first chapter is done with characters clearly defined as good or bad - its really just an enjoyable romp.
Bedroom scenes better listened to with headphones or the car windows closed to avoid embarrassment !
Have you listened to any of Jill Redfield’s other performances? How does this one compare?
Jill Redfield does her usual good job, but some of the characters do sound the same as the others. She really brings the books to life though. I am sure they are better with Jill's narration than just reading the printed version

Outstanding
First off I will say that The Mercury Pack series runs alongside The Phoenix Pack series. The series starts with Feral Sins, The Phoenix Pack book one and each book is an amazing sexy adventure. I can not recommend both entire series' highly enough, however I would strongly advise you to start at the beginning as if you decide to go back after reading a later book you will be in possession of information that contain huge spoilers.
Spiral of Need is another great addition to the series, this time focusing on the Mercury packs Beta, Derren. An associate of Derren's contacts him and asks him to look out for someone important to him and Derren agrees, he collects Ally from the pack where she was unsafe and takes her to his pack for a temporary stay. There's just one problem. Ally is a seer and Derren has good reason to mistrust a seer, in fact, very little of The Mercury Pack are happy to be host to a seer.
Ally knows exactly how all the wolves feel because a seer cannot only get visions, they are empaths and she is in physical pain from the negativity surrounding her.
There is so much more to this story, I won't go any further because I would like to avoid spoiling this fabulous series for anyone.
Jill Redfield is the perfect narrator for the series' she flawlessly flows from one character to another, none of the voices are forced and all are identifiable. The narrative is always in line with the story.
These books have the perfect mix of Suzanne Wright's fabulous writing and Jill Redfields complimentary narration.

Brilliant Continuation to the Phoenix Pack series
Great action as always from this author. If you like action, romance, strong characters and a few laughs thrown in this spin off series to the Phoenix Pack. I suppose it could be read without reading the Phoenix pack books but I wouldn't personally recommend doing so. My recommendation would be to read books 1-4 of the Phoenix Pack, this book, then book 5 of the Phoenix Pack then book 2 of this series. Anyway you would miss some really good books.

Excellent
Another excellent book about attraction, love and nature. Shifters become part of life. The narrative is strong well thought out. Fun dialog plenty to laugh and cry about. I listen again and again, the pack calls me back.

A recommended read
I really disliked the bad guys and loved the good guys. I was angry at the previous packs. I was in the story with the characters and couldn’t put the book down, even to sleep. I needed to know how the book ended. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It is well written.

I really enjoyed this performance
I found the way the Characters blended together to make the story believable. I would definitely want to read other books by Suzanne Wright.

Spiral of Need
This is a funny romance where Daren fights his own attraction and is own wolf because his mind has so many fixed prejudices. It just proves we are not all alike. Read brilliantly again by Jill Redfield.
